2016 Olympics start technically Wednesday with a few women's soccer games, then opening ceremony Friday night. Will you watch? Anything/anyone in particular you'll tune in for?

If America is competing, whatever the sport, I'll watch briefly. Cool article on Ohio State wrestler Kyle Snder was published yesterday.

Gymnastics, track and field and swimming are my faves...but I watch as much as possible. My friends and I have watch parties because we are big nerds.

I'm sure I'll watch some to:
1. Watch NBC pretend there are no problems anywhere so they can focus on "heartwarming" profiles.
2. See if any athletes spontaneously melt (or at least get covered with shit) upon contact with the "water".
When I was young, I loved watching the Olympics. Now, it seems I don't really get into them as much. Most of the sports, to me, come off as more novelties because they're not usually seen during prime viewing hours than stuff I actually enjoy watching. Which leads to them being on as background noise while I'm doing something else, if they're on at all. I mean, some stuff is always interesting (swimming if it's a close race, gymnastics and diving due to flips and shit, the sprints in track), but there's a lot of stuff that I'll look up and see and wonder just what the hell happened to my life that I'm watching this (synch swimming, rowing, long distance track races, NBC-produced features, Bob Costas talking, etc.)

A big story for track and field is Clayton Murphy from Tri Village. He is running the 800 meters

The Olympics were much more interesting during the cold war. We don't really have a rival any more.

More interested in the Rio drama than the actual games. I usually would watch hoops but just don't care because no one is coming close to beating us and there is no Lebron/Kobe to watch.

I'm interested in some of the legends who are retiring after this like Phelps and Bolt. I think Bolt still wins the 100m and 200m -- not sure if Phelps can still dominate, though.

Along with karate, skateboarding, and rock climbing. Is this temporary or a permanent addition? It seems odd that they were close to taking out wrestling, but now are adding 5 sports.Gardens35;1805656 wrote:Read earlier that Baseball and Softball return in 2020.

Well, who needs an all-time original sport when you can have kids on boards and hipsters climbing rocks!like_that;1805668 wrote:Along with karate, skateboarding, and rock climbing. I watched Brazil and South Africa play to a 0-0 tie earlier despite South Africa playing the last 25ish minutes with ten guys. I also didn't realize the American men's team didn't even qualify??
