Probably true; I know it comes from when I was young. I remember in high school, going outside in the middle of summer at 2-3 p.m. to run a couple miles. I never wrestled, but when I was preparing to leave for basic at Ft Benning in July I wanted to acclimate myself to the extra heat so I would run around 4-5pm long sleeve shirt and sweat pants in June/july when it was in the 90's. Our pool is 91 degrees. It still feels good in the evening unless you are swimming for exercise.
