Dan Straily has been a good #3-#4 type pitcher. He's gotta be in the rotation next year until he proves he isn't worthy. Solid year.
Read a stat in the paper the other day I could not believe. He set a reds record with starts givin up 3 hits or less in a season.

Can that even be right?
That, if legit, is very impressive.

Aka, you're not intelligent enough to work a cell phone.

In the year 2016.

Nah, that's not it.

I would venture to guess I had a smart phone before most people on here. I was in the biz for over 10 years before getting out in 2011. The last straw was a family vacation and seeing how the family, and so many other people around, were in these cool places yet had their noses stuck in their phones and missing out on their surroundings. When we stopped for a night at Cumberland falls and stayed at a place where there was no cell services for one night and how much of the group went bat shit crazy without phones/web I realized myself peddling those things and talking people into how they "needed" all this was just part of the problem.

So when I got back I talked to a buddy who had been wanting me to go into business with him and got it done. I realized myself I was wasting soooo much time on the phone. So, I went back to the old flip phones and now I just laugh at those people who cannot go through a dinner with their loved ones without constantly be staring at their device.

Do I miss out on some "instant" news and such? Sure, but I am totally fine with it. I can still check email and do some web if I need to but it is exclusively when I am not around anyone else.

I realize ya dont care but I also dont care when people 'make fun' of me for my phone! When I get 3-4 days on a charge and idiots, like saturday while we were waiting to get the jump in, were whining because their batteries were dead I just laugh.

but back to the reds, since that is the topic of this thread.

Did they do enough for Price to get another short contract? Still over .500 since the break and guys are playing for him so I think he does and likely deserves it.

God's to honest truth.

but I digress.

See where Bailey is still trying to come back and get a start or two in this season. I can see why he would want to. Any competitor wants to get back out there but I wonder if the reds will allow it. I guess if he is in no danger of injuring his elbow again then why not but seems like a risk not worth taking. Give him credit though for wanting to and trying. Venture to say most would just cash it in for the season.

I figured if I keep making fun of him, he'll eventually get emotional again and quit the site, again.

Until then, I'll have to respond to his annoying fucking posts the way I just did.

Yawn.

Per usual, you have nothing of value on the topic at hand but we expect that.

Votto is .412 since the break so unless he goes on a huge slump he will join Ichiro, Larry Walker, George Brett, Ted WIlliams, Babe Phelps and Earl Averill since 1933 to hit over 400 since the break.

I think there is some optimism going forward for this club.

Mets very well could exercise their million dollar buyout option of his 2017 contract making him a frree agent. He has .181 with the mets,.
Could he return to Cincy?

Reds set MLB record for home runs allowed in a season on Monday, with over a week left!

But only 8 pitchers they've used this year have given up more than Syndergaard

What Kris Bryant did to Ross Ohlendorf may have been the most impressive + predictable thing I've seen all season.

For me yes. I can't hardly get into the NFL until WS is over. I'll watch the Steelers, Bengals, Broncos, Patriots, Panthers about anytime they are on....but that's about it until mid season.

Cubs have around 40 wins vs just three teams, and are a game or two above/below .500 in one run games. Did what they need to do against the bad teams but less than impressive the rest of the way. Clinching early and possibly losing their mojo, and not doing well in 1 run games usually doesnt bode well for a team.

...so that means the Cubs will likely win it all. Hope not...I like the "curses" in the game. Red Sox arent as interesting since they broke the curse of the bambino.

Has price done enough to get another year?

I'm not sure any of my friends who are Reds fans remotely like Price as a manager (loved him as a pitching coach, but not as a manager). With that said, he was in a no-win situation this year with a rebuilding team based around a handful of high-paid veterans. The pitching staff was a mess from day 1 with Bailey being a complete non-factor (once again), Simon being a burnt-out joke, no legitimate closer and being forced to rely on a bunch of young guys and journeymen who may or may not have been ready/capable for being a big-league guy. With the way the team has been better since the All-Star break (not so much right now, but things like losing Hamilton play a role in that), I could see him getting another year with a short leash (if for no other reason than how Jocketty has been pretty passive overall), but it's hard to tell. Right now, the team is a few key pieces away from remotely being a legit contender and simply swapping out managers without working to get those pieces isn't going to have much effect.

Thing is, up until recently and possibly even still is the case, they were playing over .500 ball in the second half.

I think he does get another year unless they really have someone in mind to take the job, like a former red.

The real thing is...Price should've been fired BEFORE this year. You don't go into a rebuild with the same guy whose fizzled out effort forced you to rebuild.

Cannot argue that, but I think it was more of an ego thing for the front office. They got rid of Dusty because he couldnt win in the postseason and I think getting rid of him after that short of a time admits to themselves they fucked up. Everyone knew it...but they werent going to give in.
