Which is why Wentz is growing on me more than Goff. Sure, Wentz didn't play the competition level of a Goff, but he has all of the right physical tools. Plus, I believe he could've played at a D1 school (Michigan St, I believe) but opted to stay local.

What do you base this off of? I have not even come close to this line of thinking.

Ryan ranked 20th in QB rating, 3rd in interceptions and only threw 21 TD's despite being 5th in the NFL in pass attempts. 11 of the 16 games, he threw for 1 or 0 TD's...which is crazy for today's elite QB's. The Falcons offensive line ranked 4th in the NFL according to Pro Football Focus. He also had the best WR and 6th best RB on his offense. So, saying not top 20 might be slightly exaggerated, but compared to where Ryan was 3 years ago to now is night and day. He's clearly taken a step back the last 2 seasons to the point where there are rumblings that the ATL may be considering moving on from him or wanting to replace him. He also turns 31 this off-season so it's pretty fair to say that he is what he is. It's not like he's got much ceiling from here.

Ryan had a very bad year but he's still a top 20 QB and I wouldn't say he's been worse each year.

He had a bad 2014 and a worse 2015.

Sure, he could bounce back, but I said he was slowly getting worse (and older) and both can't be disputed.

That wasn't the point though. The point was more that if a guy is projected to top out where Ryan has, that's not what you hope for with a 2nd overall pick.

I thought he was #17 last year, 7th before that, 7th before that, 6th before that, 6th before that, 4th before that

I misread the title, thought it read Josh Gordon because my mind thinks that way about the Browns.

Yeah to say he's the 20th best QB is laughable. C'mon Azu

Matt Ryan's last 5 years per Football Outsiders DVOA/QBR

2011: 7/5
2012: 8/4
2013: 10/9
2014: 9/10

Recent comparisons to current NFL QB's have:

Wentz = Derek Carr
Goff = Matt Ryan
Lynch = more athletic Blake Bortles

And most have Wentz as the top QB after his Senior Bowl, which is just amazing to me.
Or let Tunsil go first and then snag Bosa up and get a great pass rusher. They were a dismal 28th in sacks last season

Personally, I don't care if Bosa turns out to be JJ Watt if Wentz/Goff can be another David Carr (puke on Matt Ryan). They need a QB at this point.

I'm not of the mindset to "take a QB just to take one" but it's looking like these guys are going to grade out high enough to merit pulling the trigger at #2. Now if one of them was the top ranked QB but the 47th ranked player in this draft, I'd probably pass and go with another player (not sure it would be Bosa though if they are running a 3-4).

2016 will be a question mark as to how many games they win. Let's say they take a Bosa, etc at #2 and they end up winning 6 games with McCown being the starter again? No idea if the 2017 QB class is better than this year's but you've essentially left yourself out of position to get your franchise guy by waiting another year.

If this year's draft class were full of Geno Smith's, Christian Ponder's & Brandon Weeden's, I'd say pass but I think at least two of these guys are going to be legit.

That kind of thinking is why the Browns are so bad though, just like when the Lions sucked. Instead of taking Brady Quinn because they need a QB, they took Johnson and we all see how that worked out. Then Stafford was available the year after and Detroit became a legitimate team finally. This is what Cleveland needs to do, take one of these top defensive players like Bosa, or Ramsey, or Jack, and then hopefully be able to get Watson next year. There is a guy who truly looks like a franchise guy. Not Carson Went

"Hope" belongs in church.

The Browns have had your mentality since the years following the drafting of Couch and where has that gotten them? Answer: one of the biggest laughingstocks of the league

If you're IN a position to take the top QB in the draft, and QB is your TOP need, you pull the trigger, assuming the QB grades out to your liking.

If they somehow pull a fluke and win 6 or 7 games with McCown (or whoever) at QB, still going to have a need at the position and no guarantee Watson will be there, if he's the top guy.

And exactly how did the Calvin Johnson over Brady Quinn thing "work out" for them? Sure, Megatron was an elite player but I don't see the Lions hoisting any Lombardi trophies (same as the Browns, BTW). Yeah, a couple of token playoff appearances maybe but big deal.

Lmao at following the Lions blueprint for success. They won 0 playoff games.

Not entirely true. Wentz was like 5'8" his sophomore year in HS. He didn't really get to play QB until the start of his HS Senior year. he just didn't get recruited at all.

What's the Lions record with Stafford against teams with a winning record? My memory is a little fuzzy.

Completely forgot about this guy. How sweet would it be if he actually came back healthy & panned out?

Thought about him when the Browns struggled to get 3 healthy CB's on the field, just assumed his football days were over.

Browns released Randy Starks & Jim Dray today. Nothing shocking there. I can see more of these old(er) guys like Whitner, Dansby, etc being let go.
