So there is no connection at all then? Got it.BR1986FB;1775170 wrote:Not sure how relevant it is but it sounds like there's some "connection" between Hue Jackson and Cal QB Jared Goff. Could be something to watch should Jackson get hired.

Interesting note, in the 2015/16 NFL playoffs, 9 of the top 10 run defenses made it to the playoffs. The other was the NY Jets.

That is pretty interesting. And all of them have relevant QBs, including the Jets.Commander of Awesome;1775183 wrote:Interesting note, in the 2015/16 NFL playoffs, 9 of the top 10 run defenses made it to the playoffs. The other was the NY Jets.

I'd take the Browns QB play over both this past season.sleeper;1775190 wrote:For a contrast, see Cleveland.

Hopefully the Browns pick all D-Line this year so we can have the #1 rush defense and be Super Bowl champs.

No. I'm sure the Browns will draft another stud lineman and then when we go 4-12 next year you'll be back on here telling us we need to focus on stopping the run!Commander of Awesome;1775198 wrote:Shelton is the only reason we lost huh? Damn, worst pick of all time right there.

Total yards is a little skewed. It stands to reason that most playoff teams would be lower because good teams are usually ahead, and teams pass more when playing from behind. Green Bay was the only playoff team in the top half of the league in terms of rushing attempts against, and they were 14th.Commander of Awesome;1775183 wrote:Interesting note, in the 2015/16 NFL playoffs, 9 of the top 10 run defenses made it to the playoffs. If you look at YPC you have Tampa, Jacksonville, Tennessee, and Baltimore in the top 10.

Shelton is one piece of the puzzle. DEs, LBers, Safeties that can fucking tackle (looking at whitner), etc.... For the record I want Geoff or Lynch and have said that numerous times.sleeper;1775200 wrote:No. I'm sure the Browns will draft another stud lineman and then when we go 4-12 next year you'll be back on here telling us we need to focus on stopping the run!

Shelton is a bum. He's only a two down player and drafted 12 overall

He had a good second half of the year. Pretty fucking stupid to call a D-lineman who showed a lot of promise a bum.shook_17;1775208 wrote:Shelton is a bum. He's only a two down player and drafted 12 overall

Agreed. Shelton was pretty disruptive towards the end of the year. If he gets good coaching, which I don't think he had with Pettine's crew, I expect significant improvement.SportsAndLady;1775213 wrote:He had a good second half of the year. Plus, to say Shelton is only a "two down player" in a 3-4 system isn't necessarily a bad thing. A NT's job, in a 3-4, is to eat space, occupying two blockers so the LB's can do their work. Any high amounts of tackles or sacks from a NT are just gravy. Frankly, if the offense is in a 3rd & long, Shelton probably shouldn't be on the field anyway.
As a side note, Hue Jackson had a second interview with the Browns yesterday and left without an offer. He's expected to meet with the Giants today or tomorrow. The Giants meeting may be a due diligence type of thing because the frontrunners for that position are supposedly Ben McAdoo & Doug Marrone.
