In modern times only one NFL owner lost money owning a team, and he did it twice. The first time he took a big pay day to move the team so that he could one day give it to his son. The second time, he had to sell his majority ownership.

Not "modern" times but I heard an interview with Eddie DeBartolo where he said as the Niners owner they didn't often "make a lot of money" but he "felt an obligation to win." Didn't look up the numbers as to how much SF made/lost but I don't think Haslam has that same mindset.

Eddie's dad paid $17 million for the niners in 1977. Forbes has them valued at $2.7 billion in 2015. I know Eddie Jr. gave control to his sister as part of his settlement. That's over a 14% return annually on the value for the family. This doesn't even factor in any cash that they took out of the business. The niners were just a toy, along with the Pittsburgh Penguins, since they made their real money with their mall construction business.

I don't know about that. It's not like he is pulling a Dolan and being a complete cheap ass. Our defense is very expensive. The problem is the decision making at the personnel level. Factor that and then consider who else you would actually want to pay on our roster. I can only think of a few guys and most of them are on the offensive line.

He's not cheap, by any means, but he needs to toss his ego and bring in a football guy to pick the GM. The only problem is that I don't think this is a very attractive landing spot which means they will probably be stuck with unproven personnel guys & coaches.

If there is a QB worth taking at #1, I'd love to see them draft that and hire Hue Jackson who is great with QB's and an overall well rounded football coach (has coached both offense & defense). I'm just skeptical Jackson would want this gig.

If someone wants to be a head coach in the NFL, there are only 32 positions. Most of them are bad situations when they are available. It is very rare when you have Bill Walsh or Jimmy Johnson replaced in the middle of championships. I still believe the person evaluating the talent is much more important than the head coach, especially with a horrible team.

I agree on the personnel guy but I don't think the coaching position is a slam dunk to add someone of quality if there are other opportunities out there. It's not the most favorable situation when you have a hair trigger owner who fires regimes every two years. Now in the case of Pettine/Farmer, they deserve to go but candidates are going to see Haslam's track record with hires.

From reading the thread today, I'm guessing because of the pure comedy of a guy basing his opinion of a player primarily off their college stats and awards. And then going all-in on things by playing the "I know someone who knows someone" card followed by directly comparing real life with a fictional movie.

I just read this. I'm still stunned.

More power to you for actually reading it. FW's posts make me (almost) wish non and rock were still posting here just to counter the amount of stupidity coming from FW.

Non was actually a decent poster, who you could talk football with, until his fatal "fans of teams that win more games have more football knowledge" bullshit. Rock was just a psycho crazy mf'er. You guys want to call me a "roid rager?" That dude was the king of ragers.

Rock seriously had some mental issues. We just like to bust your balls.

Funnily enough, when I was reading Foot's rants from last night, Rock was the first person I thought about as far as scraping that barrel of stupidity.

Let's Go Browns! I hope Manziel balls out today. Just because I don't expect him to succeed doesn't mean I'm not rooting for it.

Discussed #Browns situation on @NFLGameDay. At this point, it's unfathomable Mike Pettine & Ray Farmer both return. Which will Haslam pick?

How about Neither?

I hope Johnny is a freaking stud today and wrecks the league finally.

I would love to see Johnny hit a long bomb to Pryor today. Cleveland Browns Stadium would come unglued. Browns fans deserve that kind of moment to get excited about.

Pettine should resign today if Johnny plays well. It will vindicate Ray in Jimmy's mind, and drive him he should have been the full time starter far sooner than the 13th game.

Can't spell Pettiness without Pettine, and seeing Johnny be a stud is an excellent punishment for him given his approach toward the guy all season.

If Johnny plays well today, nothing should happen. Because it's one game and it's against one of the worst teams in the NFL.
