A perfect example in my opinion would be Manhattan Buckeye. I don't post much because of content, no other reason why. I still check it, usually daily...but there just isn't anything on the board typically that makes me want to join in the discussion.

I don't think individual members are to blame for the site's decline. Honestly, getting into a heated debate and/or teasing is imperative to a fun message board. Consequentially, however, some people take it all too seriously. Like when you out someone's sister for banging black dudes. It's like, seriously dude....chill out, it's imperative to the site's success.

On a serious note, if you look at threads like this, and other threads that get lots of responses; it's because of the content that people want to chime in. Honestly, IDGAF about what you ate in Jr. High, an OVI check point at Indian Lake or Cleveland State University. I don't say that to sound crude, but it's obvious I'm not the only one who feels that way. 20+ people have posted on this thread. If 20+ people started a new thread every other day or so, chances are the "lurkers" are going to find something they want to comment on and post.

The other thing to consider is, we all started doing this when we were in our early 20's. I used to talk about dicks and farts and thought it was funny. We've aged and matured. The content has, for the most part, too. And it's boring...we are old and boring.

Yappi has a niche (high school football). I know this site tried to develop one years ago, but it was unsuccessful. This basically became the "Sports/Trivia Forum," and see my above post about the issues with content. The thing about HS football, the content is fresh every year.

Yeah, I think so. It was when the OU mascot tried to tackle him or something like that. The dude who was the mascot (or at least said so) was a poster here. He talked about it here some and then disappeared so quickly that he must have been told to STFU about things from higher-ups in the athletic department. Unless he was Tiernaning his way through it all and realized that if he didn't disappear, he'd eventually be outed as a fraud, but I seem to recall it being legit at that time.

It was a thread about something military and my response was about my son. There are just way too many idiots who make it not fun.

i'm sure we have all seen reddit. the best feature on that site is that when you start a thread you can mark it serious and kill shenanigans there. that's what we need here.

I'm pretty sure he was legit. I think I remember having him as a facebook friend. But it's possible he just Tiernan'd his way through it all. I guess it really never made sense that he didn't just make a new name to post on and never mention stuff about being the mascot.

I agree. Seemed like I would post something serious and then posters would do to me what they did to you.

I got some thicker skin and it's been better here for me because of that.
