I love doing the Yoga. I don't do Yoga Belly during regular weeks (I'm not killing my abs 3 days in a row)
I do the first 45 minutes of the movement portion, then skip ahead to the cool down at the very end.
I always feel so much better the next day after doing it. It kind of sucks after blasting your shoulders the day before, but you work the soreness out pretty quickly.

Yoga is fucking boring - i also don't think there are too many benefits from doing it.

I agree with you both. #1, I love it when I do it. #2, it's boring. However, Raw Dawg, I believe that there are plenty of benefits to yoga, if done consistently. Flexibility being the main thing.

I'll agree that it's boring but after years of beating the hell out of my joints through powerlifting, it has it's benefits.

Calorie burn
increased flexibility
stretching

I'd say those are pretty important.

There are definitely benefits but I agree boring as hell. Also never feels like I truly got a workout in. I need intensity in my workouts.

First time I ever did Yoga, I did the entire 90 minutes. Sweat my ass off.

Some people just don't like things unless they are anaerobic. Preference thing I guess.

I stretch after workouts but that's about it. I've done yoga a bunch of times but i never finished feeling like i got a work out in and i just don't see much of a difference than stretching after work outs to prevent injuries.

You aren't supposed to feel like you got a "workout". You are supposed to feel more relaxed and looser.

Also, that article is interesting as it doesn't define which type of yoga. An Ashtanga program is going to get your heart rate up and burn a LOT more calories than a Hatha program.

Isn't that the definition of a workout? You may feel/see benefits from it, but i don't think it's worth the time. I think it's mostly mental.

I noticed a huge difference in my flexibility after doing Yoga for serveral weeks. Plus the first 45 minutes are very challenging and get me sweating. I'm with LJ. You should do it.

I have done it - it's just not for me. Being more flexible would be nice, but it's not necessary for me. The workouts and sports i play don't require me to be any more flexible than i am. I don't think the time put into it is worth the so called benefits.

Ok Brah. At least do a shorter version.

Any sport requires flexibility. Yoga will help you not tear an ACL, MCL and prevent other injuries.

I'm saying that you aren't supposed to feel like you just did a 5 mile run or just blasted your lower body with deadlifts and squats. Like I said earlier, a lot of people think they didn't do anything unless their muscles are in complete fatigue or their heart rate hits 165.

Even the article you posted has benefits well beyond "mostly mental" such as flexibility and increased circulation. Yoga is supposed to be a longevity thing, not a "blast your abs and biceps and lets go to the beach" thing.

I don't do it anymore either (i'm not doing P90x), but I'm not sure why you are so quick to label the "so called benifits". My brah comment was at the boss man ETB.

I didn't say it had no benefits - i just don't think the time put in to do yoga is worth the benefits you get from it. As i said, i don't think there is much difference doing a 10 minute stretch after a workout than doing 45 minutes of moving yoga. I'm not bashing you for doing it, i just don't like it and think it's is overrated.

I'm not bashing something i've never tried. I'm not saying it's easy either, i struggled with the poses, i just don't think the benefits from doing 45 mins of yoga on my are any different than me lifting and then stretching for 10-15 minutes. Basically i think it's overrated and has a low ROI.

edit: yoga does not equal a lifting/running workout, i meant the stretching post work out is no different IMO than 45 mins of yoga.

If you do the correct post work out stretches, yes. I also get bored, so I switched to a 25 minutes routine. I see the benefits of the yoga, but understand that it is not a workout, but hate to skip it. Basically I am:

Just started Phase 3 today. Forgot how tiring the back/chest exercise was, but having been through both phases, I really pushed myself this morning. I'm definitely spent.

You didn't pace yourself like Bobby Stephenson?

I did 340 today. Happy with that.

Thanks to BR, when Tony told Marane "go low and when you get in trouble go to your knees" I had a bad thoughts in my head.
