I prefer barbells but it's all about the contraction. If you're concentrating on the muscle you're working you'll get a similar effect.

For real though, anyone watch the World's Strongest Man every year?
WSM competitors are motherfuckers. They look like slobs but they have to be in pretty good cardiovascular shape. Doing the farmers walk and carrying that giant boulder/ball, then putting it on that shelf, has to blow you up. That's why I bought that Prowler.

Are lat pull downs a good supplement for pull ups?

as long as you go as heavy as you can for 5-8 reps. it won't substitute pull ups, but those are good if you have no place to do pull ups.

I just want to make sure I'm maximizing my workout. Went with pull ups today, and was glad I did. Already seeing improvements.

I use to take my laptop to the gym in a friends apartment complex and would do as many pull ups as i could then finish off at the pull down machine. So as long as you don't substitute them for pull ups you're good - but i definitely agree they'll help when you can't pull yourself up anymore

I am entering my first recovery week. I am pretty pleased with the results so far. Definitely enough to keep me motivated to keep going.

Where are you seeing your most gains? I'm starting my 2nd recovery week today. I've lost inches, gained muscle, gained some size. Haven't really lost any weight, but the gained muscle is offsetting. I really want to try to stick to a more strict diet this third phase. I still have plenty of blubber around the waist, and I'm not really a "fat" guy. Just "beer" guttish type stuff.

Give it up for two weeks. You'll reduce your tolorance and when you start back up again, only drink good beer with a APV above 6%.

My stomach has shrunk (most likely from the tightening of the ab muscles and less because of fat loss) and I have really seen a change from my shoulders across my chest. I've lost 4 1/2 lbs. I feel like I just look overall more solid too. I'm gonna go hard this week with the cardio type stuff and really try to shed some fat. I'll probably throw in a long bike ride after Stretch this week.

Oh and I added 52 overall pushups from Day 1 to last Monday. I literally have nowhere to put a pullup bar, so I sub in an extra set of heavy pants and lawnmowers to try to make up for using the bands for the pullups.

I gave it up for over two months during basketball season. I only drink two days per week, too.

I'm only 5'9, so yeah I wouldn't have a problem. Used to do them on one the same size all the time in college.

I had to go measure the chair I used for dips, 17". Maybe you can get deep enough with it.

You could also get a belt and do weighted dips much easier. Chair dips are rough on my shoulders.

Same here. I have a wide back (just my build, not from giant muscles) so my shoulders go way behind me to do dips on a freaking chair.

Doing dips like these

and adding weight over time >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> chair dips

Do dips between benches (feet on one bench, hands on the other) with weights in your lap. That will solve it. Putting feet on the floor is weak.
