As much as I'd like to see it be close, it won't.

Bolt is on another planet

50 yards or less and johnson will be step for step with him or beat him, 50 or more and Bolt kicks in that top end speed....game over.

He is a really slow starter though for an olympic record holder...but his top end speed is by farrrr the fastest i have ever seen

Yeah, I think he loses regardless of distance, it just gets uglier and uglier the longer the race is. If it's 100, Bolt might pull up at the 60 yard mark and still win comfortably.

I'd have to that Bolt will win no matter the distance--50/60 yards and it'll be close. 100 yards, see ya Johnson. BUT if he's able to beat Bolt--what does that say about:

1. Olympic sprinters.
2. The NFL.

But I don't see him beating Bolt so it doesn't matter. It'll be cool to watch him try though.

I really do think that people not picking Bolt in a shorter distance are underestimating him A LOT.

What are the odds Al Davis offers Usain Bolt 100 million and part ownership after the race

If you watched his latest record setting race, you would see that he is becoming a great starter as well. While the shorter the race, the closer it will be, I don't see Johnson standing much of a chance. Besides, everybody uses Johnson's 40 time at the combine as the reason why it will be close, but they fail to mention that it was on his start instead of a reaction to a gun like this race will most likely be.

People using Johnson's 40 time make me laugh too. Bolt's split times have already shown he would run a faster 40 and that's WHILE RUNNING THE 100. If they announce this will be a 40 yard race, he'll run it more like a 40 and he'll probably smoke Johnson anyways--although it will look close.

I still think this is pretty sweet watching athletes from different sports race, hopefully this starts something up where athletes from all sports compete in competitions or something like that

Juiced up Ben Johnson in '88 was widely considered the fastest starter in track history. His estimated 40yd time is still faster than any football players official time (from standstill). Usain Bolt's Olympic Record was 1 hundredth of a second faster over 40M, however if you include reaction time, BJ had him by 2 one-hundredths.

However, Bolt's WR 9.58 he ran the 40M, including reaction time, was 1 one-hundredth faster than BJ, and he's capable of faster.

While it's true world-class sprinters don't hit top speed until 50-60M, I don't see how Chris Johnson has a chance of beating him at any distance. There is absolutely no reason to believe a football player is capable of starting faster than olympic sprinters who are always working to squeeze a few precious hundredths out of those first 40M. A guy such as Chris Johnson may have the natural physical ability to match a Bolt in 40M, but he likely does not have the training to do so. At 90-95% efficiency Chris Johnson has no chance against an olympic sprinter at 98-99% efficiency.

Just think about that. If we make the assumption that Chris Johnson is potentially faster over any olympic sprinter in history....let's say he's capable of running the 40 a full tenth faster than any of those guys...He would have to be within 2% of Bolt's efficiency (2% of, call it 4.1, would be 8.2 hundredths) to win. I don't see how that is possible even if he were that much potentially faster, which is a highly unlikely assumption.

Johnson's only chance is Bolt doesn't go all out for risk of injury and is not in peak form. Even then, I say Johnson gets dusted by at least a tenth of a second.

Lol so SQ you're using Bolts 40 split on a track and using starting blocks and track spikes and comparing it to CJ running on turf with turf shoes at the combine?

BUTT Bolt's time consists of a reaction time to the starter's gun. Johnson's time did not have reactions time included because it was off of his start. So while Johnson ran a 4.24 40, it would be 4.4+ if he was forced to react to a starter's gun.

For sure they would make a difference, but I just don't see CJ having a legit shot unless he has an amazing start and Bolt has a horrible one.
