No new news....he said that before.

Always bet on them to win, however.

Don't take this the wrong way... this isn't a jab at you, but rather ESPN and the media... Why is this news?! Pete Rose played how many years ago? Can't we just let it go away already?! I'd say this is totally news if it was a new player, etc. But this is Pete Rose. This was umpteen years ago. Move on already (again, not you, but the media).

As a player...yeah I think this is new concrete news.

He always said it was never when he played, only as a manager. Maybe he said that because that left it open to get in the HoF as a player.

They should just remove the lifetime ban on Pete Rose. This is ridiculous.

Yeah, great timing.

I thought years ago I heard from someone in the investigation that Rose needs to just shut his trap on it because he doesnt want the all the info to come out as it would make him look even worse.

Wonder if ESPN was running ads for their Draft kings gambling service while attacking Pete on OTL?

so let me get this straight, you can juice to the gills to pad the stats for years and that is OK but you cant bet on a few games?

Go it.

Did anyone honestly think he didn't gamble/bet on Reds games until he was 45 years old?

statistically he was just baseball's version of Hines Ward...

I guess many Rose fans, myself being one, held out hope that he didnt while he played but I figured he probably did.

Interesting comparison, but I would put rose way above Ward. Although just an arbitrary number, I compare 200 hits in a season as a very, very, very good season as well as 100 catches in the nfl. Rose had 200+ hits about a dozen times, whereas Ward had 100 once. 100 catches isnt what it used to be, but i think 200hits has always been and even a bigger milestone.

Pete Rose is a dumbass. I absolutely worshiped him when I was a kid, but he's shown his true colors for 25 years. I never believed he didn't start betting on baseball before he was a manager - that isn't consistent with his character. The guy is a compulsive gambler who absolutely has no care to change his ways. He's a liar and it's a shame.

It's too bad people don't look at Pete's gambling addiction like they do Hamilton's coke addiction.

...Pete needs to just go away.

I met him at a dinner where he was the guest of honor & was there to sign balls & to accept an award. He was not only ungracious to the people paying him to be there but I couldn't believe my eyes when he told a kid about 10yrs old who apparently got his autograph earlier that evening & waited in line a second time that he wouldn't sign his ball because he already signed one for him.

What a POS!!!

His bloated ego is also part of why he was so good. It's a character trait that all of the best athletes have.

Most on here dont remember him as a player and manager. I still remember where I was when he got 4192 and saw him play a number of times. We made sure to go when he was on other teams and played in cincy. It sucks when a guy ya look up to runs afoul. I waas at that game he pushed an umpire on a late call by Palone against the Mets. SHit got real at that game. I remember finding out about Dwight Gooden from a guy I know who was drafted by the Mets. I wanted to not believe it, but then a few years later it all came out when he got busted and it sucks when you are a kid.

Most of us from that era were OK with letting him in the HoF because he didnt break the #1 rule in baseball while he played and that was what he was going to be judged on.
