lol...that's exactly "how it works"

Get a favorable seed, then turn it up come playoff time.

Those teams that do that do not win championships. Teams do not get hot and win it all.

The Mavericks, Heat, and Lakers disagree with you.

Don't forget the Spurs, who couldn't care less what seed they have, they just want to be healthy when the playoffs roll around.

Yeah, depending on how fall down you want to look at a team being before "getting hot and winning it all", you could go back to 1995, when Houston was the #6 seed with Hakeem and won it all. Or just use a more modern time, like when a Shaq/Kobe Lakers team "only" was 58-24 or something like that, got the #3 and won it all.

I see both sides.

The Cavs could be lifeless the rest of the way and still have the talent and potential to win it all.
They could also dominate the rest of the way and not be any more guaranteed to win it all.

Face the facts, they need to specifically scheme and make moves to beat Golden State or San Antonio. Both teams they struggle with, both teams they have struggled with in year's past...if they can't breeze through the East with the roster they have then it's irrelevant if the title is the goal.

Furthermore, rarely in pro sports do you make moves specifically to match-up with a certain team or teams. Usually you just make your team better. The NBA is in a unique place though and everyone sees the bench mark on what it will take to win it all.

A player I think would be a good "on court" fit would be Marfieff Morris. Though, I'm not sure how he'd affect the chemistry.

Also, and knock down 3 shooter would be a Good piece for a run. JR is a great shooter, but too streaky.

Morris is the draymond green killer. He would be an instant upgrade and make the team better. But will the suns part with him is the question.

The question I have is...what do the Cavs have to trade someone? Their DP's suck. Any young players they have with value (Shumpert/Thompson) are way overpaid. They basically are going to have to make a move for someone that a team wants to dump and is willing to take expiring contracts/lesser contracts for.

A Mozgov + picks for Morris deal would work, but I'm not sure how the Suns really benefit by acquiring the 28th pick in the draft.

Salary dumping. If the Suns want to save money this year they made part with Morris for an expiring deal or a TPE.

The pick doesn't really matter as its mostly a throw in for getting the deal done. The Suns are so bad they may consider trading off a guy who doesn't want to be there for some financial savings.

Oh the Suns definitely have motive to make some moves. But do they have any incentive to make those moves with the Cavs? They definitely need to trade Morris. The guy is a malcontent who has whined ever since they got rid of his brother.

Exactly they are about done with his attitude. I have a feeling if he came to Cleveland his attitude would change dramatically. The chance at a championship plus lebron can make sure that attitude doesn't effect the locker room, just like JR

The market for Morris isn't likely to be large so yes its very possible the Cavs are either the only buyer or one of a few.

You are right though that our assets are limited compared to some other teams, but as far as draft picks any team worth a damn isn't going to be trading a top 20 pick for Markieff freaking Morris.

I'm not sure Morris is the answer anyway.

I'd like a deal that involves moving Love for a real player but that's a pipe dream at this point.

Plus, I may have missed it posted earlier but doesn't he have a (potential) felony charge pending against him where a team could trade for him and then lose him to suspension, possible jail time?

Potential trade targets...

The only thing I could see happening is Sacramento wanting something they can't have (JR) or the Cavs settle for McLemore with the TPE. There are better choices for using it. It's possible they could get a third team in.

For shits and giggles I ran this trade on the Trade Machine and it works...

Memphis - Mozgov
Cavs - McLemore, Casspi (Or swap out Quincy Acy, he works too)
Kings - Courtney Lee

We have another week until the Cavs play again and when they do the trade deadline will have passed. If anyone really wants to get rid of Love, jump on the trade machine and post some ideas of trades that work.

One I saw yesterday thrown out on the realgm boards...

Hawks - Kyrie, AV, Moz
Cavs - Horford, Korver, Teague, Mike Scott(PF)

While it would be nice to have Horford, Cavs wouldn't give up Kyrie for him.

Horford, Korver and Sefolosha for Love and Mozgov works too. That would be more likely of the two.

Teague to Cleveland makes zero sense.
