These refs have been very pro Duke if I'm being honest.

Would rather make it there than lose in the second round like someone like Bill Self has done so many times with better teams.Laley23;1718638 wrote:S&L is right. He has made it 7 times and has 1 title and 2 (??) title games. That got Roy run out of Lawrence...
However, once at the FF, anyone can win. So I wouldnt call it a choke. But, he has a really bad track record after the Regionals.

Self has as many championships as Izzo has in 1/4 the opportunities.robj55;1718641 wrote:Would rather make it there than lose in the second round like someone like Bill Self has done so many times with better teams.
And besides why bring self up? It's a fact that Izzo has 1 championship in 7 final fours. That's fucking pathetic.
Are you a MSU fan? That would make sense considering your pro sports "fanhood"

You could substitute Matta or whoever else in there, point being was getting bounced early consistently to worse competition.SportsAndLady;1718647 wrote:Self has as many championships as Izzo has in 1/4 the opportunities.

I wouldnt say pathetic. I mean, Dean Smith was 2/11.
But, its definitely not what you expect.

No one is arguing (besides maybe rec) against Izzo in the tourney. It's just that in the final four he loses. Except for one time he loses.robj55;1718648 wrote:You could substitute Matta or whoever else in there, point being was getting bounced early consistently to worse competition.

I wasn't trying to take a shot at Self, just saying I would rather make it to the final four consistently than lose to outmatched opposition early in the tournament consistently.SportsAndLady;1718650 wrote:No one is arguing (besides maybe rec) against Izzo in the tourney. He's been to the final four seven times and has one national championship.
That's a 14% rate. Yikes

Only watched about 1/2 (watched all the 14-6 start....then took a break and came back and they were up 4)...but that was great showing by Duke. All the different defenses and each of the big 3 played as needed. I don't know if they can beat Kentucky but we'll get to see.

Based on seed, he should have won 1.5. What a horrible underachievement.SportsAndLady;1718653 wrote:Here's some more numbers:

Throw seeds out the window in the final four. He gets there, then he loses.
Izzo is a great fucking coach. One of my favorites. But when he gets to the final four, he chokes on apple sauce.

There is nothing choking about losing to a better team. I don't get how that's a tough concept.

Two years ago Wichita was the 1 seed and everyone knew Kentucky would beat them. Was that a gigantic upset?

How can you throw seeds out? They ran the easiest region and then were defeated by the better team. Everyone knew they were the 4th best team in the Final 4....had they lost by 6 in a tighter game would it have been a choke?SportsAndLady;1718658 wrote:"Based on seed"

Izzo is awesome. Are we going to pounce on Krzyzewski for his record in the final after UK beats them?...and possibly just like Duke beat Mich St.

I agree it is not a good record and is not something to be touting if your an MSU guy.
But, chokes is the complete wrong word, imo.

Everyone expects Kentucky to beat Wisconsin handily.
But according to mulva's logic, if Kentucky loses its not a bad loss for them because it is even seeding.
