The thing I have noticed about Genoa is that although they have a lot of depth this year in comparison to last year, the depth they do have is under-developed and often times playing without composure. I'm going to just say it and take the flack that I may get, but Clark should start over Sutter. I mean with Wonnell and Lester playing post already, it pushes Sutter to play around the arc and quite frankly he is not shooting well enough to garner that starting position. But this is not a shot at Luke, it's more that Clark has proven he should crack the starting lineup. I mean how can a player set the school record for three pointers, from the bench, and not start at all after that? Something is wrong behind the scenes in Genoa and although it's too late to fix it in time to contend for a SLL title, they can make the adjustments in time for the postseason.
With tonight's loss it pretty much kills both Wonnell's and Bassitt's legitimate shot at being named POY, and imo narrowing the field down to either Weisenborn or Rolf to win it. Like what talkischeap was saying, it all depends on wins so whoever finishes higher in the standings will win it. My money would be on Rolf.

ok my mind is getting blown here. I hear Genoa turned the ball over 40 times.....now I hear that he didnt want Matt taking the ball up the court in the zone!?!?!??!?! The kid cant be pressed. He has proven that for the past 3 years. Why would you put the ball in anyone elses hands but his to break a press?
My gosh....is baseball here yet?

Is Overmeyer actually trying to coach himself out of a job? Because it sure as shit looks that way. I mean seriously you've gotta be kidding me

Genoa had 23 turn overs. I don't know who told you they had 40. lol....It may have seemed like 40. It was a little bit of every one. And a lot of them happened in the half court offense. It wasn't just the press. To be honest, I don't think it mattered who brought the ball up. They had trouble all night running their offense.

Hahaha you may be right. I cannot even tell what the hell offense Genoa runs. I mean at least last year it was the Bassitt or Palmer shoots offense but this year it is just a big question mark. Btw gotta love when Eli threw a pass above the backboard last night

Last year's Genoa offense resembled something along the line of " Let's have Bassit bring the ball up court and whatever happens from there happens". It's kind of sad to think about how good Genoa could have been with some consistentency out of the coaches.

Well with the same players other coaches were able to do great things and win not just SLL's but District and Regional championships
Elmwood at Eastwood
Gibsonburg at Woodmore
Lake at Otsego
Northwood at Genoa
Big game at Eastwood

Here comes my rant. Since when does an official stop play to warn a player about getting a techinical foul when the other team has possession of the ball and ready to shoot a layup? Since when is a player allowed to pass the ball to himself and not get called for traveling? Since when is slapping the backboard not called goal tending when a shot is at the basket? End rant.

I think you are talking about the same ref in all three instances. He was bad but he was bad both ways. I guess all you can ask for in consistency lol

royal_k: 1. Sounds like the official shouldn't have done that. 2. Please provide more description of the play in question. 3. Slapping the backboard is never goaltending.

Yeah I'm not sure about the slapping the backboard, I don't remember seeing that. The closest thing I remember was on the lay up by eastwood where the ball was blocked off the backboard. I couldn't tell if it hit the glass first or not.

Karen: It doesn't matter if it hit the glass first or not. Not a factor in determining goaltending.

You are not allowed to touch any part of the basket, backboard included, when the ball is at the basket.
A player after starting a pass, realized he couldn't make the pass. The ball still left his hands, but he moved and caught his own pass. Clearly illegal.

You cannot block a shot once it hits the glass in the NBA. In the NCAA, I believe you can block if off the glass as long as the ball does not reach the height of the rim (rule change this season I believe). It does not appear that the NFHS has changed it rule and therefore the only factor is whether the ball is on its downward path and has a chance to go in. If an official has a different interpretation, I'm open to hearing one.

Royal K I'm with you on the travel but not on the backboard issue. As I said, the play as you described it cannot be goaltending. It could be basket interference but it is possible that the backboard can be slapped with no violation of any kind. One of the more interesting sections of the rule book.

The ball was on the rim. The glass was slapped. You can call it goatending or you can call it basket interference.

No this play happened in the 3rd quarter, I believe, at the Elmwood basket.
