Eh, I'd prefer my QB (or receiver) be honest and whoever screwed up take the blame for running the wrong route or throwing the ball to the wrong spot.
What's the big deal with admitting a mistake? It happens.
Now, could Clausen have said the same thing in a little gentler fashion and not come across as arrogant in how he threw the receiver under the bus?
Yep.
He could have simply said: "It was a miss communication between me and the receiver, and one that we need to get worked out. How we do that should be done privately between us and not through an interview. I'm sure you understand."
This type of thing is easily corrected via some media training that I'm sure all NFL players (especially QBs and other folks who handle the ball a lot) receive.
No big deal in my mind, though.

I don't see the big deal with it either. Anybody else enjoying the Gruden segments? He was rather harsh on Colt McCoy in the one today. Tim Tebow seemed like he's all business in his segment. I wouldn't mind if the Browns drafted any of these guys.

Claussen Back in Play…or Smoke?
11:43 a.m.— President Mike Holmgren and GM Tom Heckert are currently addressing the media in a briefing before next week’s NFL Draft which begins a week from today. Currently, the Browns own the seventh pick in the first round.
Holmgren said that Heckert will be making the calls.
“It’s his show, he’s going to be running the draft,” Holmgren said. “With questions regarding the draft, I will kick it to Tom.”
The first question was about quarterback Jimmy Claussen and Holmgren said he now likes Claussen after meeting him.
“He’s a fine young guy and I wouldn’t read too much into my earlier comments,” he said. “I like him. He was playing hurt for a lot of the year. I always like to meet any of the players because it helps me to evaluate him. He is what he is.”
Holmgren was quoted prior to the Browns meeting with Claussen that he didn’t particularly like him.
“Don’t yell at me, and I’m not going to say why I said what I did,” he said. “I had my reasons and I’ll leave it at that.”
“There’s stuff being said about all of these kids,” Heckert said. “You have to meet with them individually and make your own evaluations.”
Also, Holmgren earlier said the Browns would take a quarterback.
“There are no guarantees in the draft, so I’m back tracking a little,” he said. “I’ve said I’d like to draft a quarterback every year, but I don’t know if that will happen. There are some quarterbacks that we like, but we don’t know if they’ll be available for us.”
Heckert said the Browns have talked to the Rams about possible going up and taking Sam Bradford.
“We’ve talked to the Rams throughout the process, but it’s just talk,” Heckert said. “We’ve talked to all the teams ahead of us and behind us.”

I know that we have the same need but I wonder if Eric Berry is on the board when we draft if Heckert, with ties to his old team, could wheel & deal with them again?Seven or eight picks in the top 95 would be pretty friggin sweet....

This would be a dream scenario. 7 picks in the top 95. That is 7 potential starters. Obviously, not all 7 would be starters but that it the quality of players we could get. That would be a dream draft.BR1986FB wrote: I know that we have the same need but I wonder if Eric Berry is on the board when we draft if Heckert, with ties to his old team, could wheel & deal with them again?Seven or eight picks in the top 95 would be pretty friggin sweet....

After reading all this that teams have given up to move up for a high 1st round draft pick, did the Browns get royally screwed last year when they trade their 5th for the 17th? What we get like 3 scrub players and a 6th rounder? And then of course we trade that 17th to the 19th, then to the 21st, and pick up 2 more worthless 6th rounders?
Hopefully Heckert isn't a dumbass and actually gets some value if he decides to trade down.

After a little more thought, I don't think the Browns will try to move up for Bradford. Do I think they'd like him? Sure, but there's one thing I didn't take into account....the collective bargaining agreement. Why pay $50 million for a franchise QB this year when a rookie wage scale will be put into place with the next CBA?

I lol'd too and yeah I hope whatever we do, we don't sell our draft to get a higher pick. And I hope at #7 we either trade it down, or get someone other than Clausen, I don't want him.Fabio wrote:lol i stopped reading after i read "trade joe thomas"BR1986FB wrote: I knew that Roger Brown was one of the dumbest m-fer's on the planet but get a load of this. These were my thoughts when the Jets traded with us to land Dirty Sanchez last year. We should have gotten at LEAST another 2nd, if not THIS years' 1st, in that deal.sleeper wrote: After reading all this that teams have given up to move up for a high 1st round draft pick, did the Browns get royally screwed last year when they trade their 5th for the 17th? So far, Heckert has been pretty shrewd in his deals getting a 3rd for Wimbley and Gocong/Brown for a pittance.

haha why would you ever consider trading Joe Thomas...He's one of the top LT's in the league, which is arguably the second most important position. Why pick Bradford if we trade Thomas? Bradford would be murdered everytime he snapped the ball. Dumb column lol

Not "one of the top", THE top LT in the NFL. He's the BEST. If he stays healthy, he will be a HOFer.pkebker wrote: haha why would you ever consider trading Joe Thomas...He's one of the top LT's in the league, which is arguably the second most important position. I can't think of a more idiotic scenario that the Browns could concoct than trading Joe Thomas for anybody...and I literally mean ANYBODY!!

I have been in Cleveland all day and see where Miami traded Ted Ginn to San Fransisco for a 5th round pick.
Another play goes off the board that the Browns could have used.

No, Ginn is not what the Browns (or most any NFL team) needs/could use.Big Red Monster wrote: I have been in Cleveland all day and see where Miami traded Ted Ginn to San Fransisco for a 5th round pick.

Miami may have got the better end of the deal with that 5th rounder

No, Cleveland couldnt have used a player like Ginn with what they have now.
