If Berry is gone and they don't want Clausen, I would think maybe trade down.
They could end up getting similar or better value than Bryant in the mid to late first round and then maybe another third round pick.

Guess it depends on who you ask. A few have said that Clausen wasn't all that impressive in his Pro Day.killer_ewok wrote: I thought Holmgren's comments about "wishing that he liked Jimmy Clausen more" were smokescreen and after Jimmy's impressive pro day......I think that the Browns almost certainly take him at #7 (I don't see Berry being available at #7).
So get ready for another Notre Dame QB, Cleveland. And sad to say.....I think this one is going to be a stud in the NFL.

This year's draft has really shined the light on Mel Kiper for me. After comparing his mock drafts and walterfootball's mock drafts of previous years, walterfootball is so much more accurate. It really does seem like Kiper focuses too much on BPA for every team and doesn't even take into consideration the draft strategies of every GM out there.Big Red Monster wrote: Kiper was on 97.1 earlier this morning and did a 13 pick mock draft.
I dont remember all the picks, but here are the ones I do remember.
St Louis - Bradford
Detroit - Suh
Cleveland - Bryant
Oakland - Claussen
San Fransisco - Haden
Kansas City - Berry

Everybody on NFL Network had a raging hard-on for Clausen's pro day performance. That's all I saw so that's why I said what I did. They showed clips of him yesterday and he did seem to do well. Made every kind of throw, showed his arm strength, etc.BR1986FB wrote:Guess it depends on who you ask. Berry is such an elite, dynamic defensive player.
It would be a shock if he didn't turn out as good as expected.
The Steelers moved up from 27 to 16 to get Polamalu. And even with some of the injuries he's had, it turned out to be a great decision. They got a safety that can do a lot of things and make clutch plays.
I don't know if any team in the Top 5 is considering trading out of the Top 5 but with so many picks the Browns might want to just get in front of Kansas City and get Berry. Who cares if you lose even a 3rd and 5th if you're getting another Ed Reed type of safety. Of course, if KC isn't going to pick Berry and you could still get him at No. 7 without trading it would be ideal but sometimes you just have to gamble and get the player you want and not look back.

Berry is the one player I would trade up to get.
But if you know you can get Thomas by trading down and getting another pick, I think you do that.

Yeah true. Thomas is underrated only because he's 5'10.
If he was 6'0 he would be a Top 10 pick.

A three-day NFL Draft could mean more trades for Cleveland Browns, other teams
By Tony Grossi, The Plain Dealer
April 10, 2010, 9:19PM
Cleveland - To rabid draftniks, the NFL Draft used to be like Christmas and the Super Bowl wrapped into one package. There's months of anticipation, followed by a big day or two, and then -- poof! -- it's done.
Commissioner Roger Goodell has changed that.
This year's draft will be spread over three days -- Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 22-24.
The first round gets its own day, Thursday night, the most-watched TV viewing night of the week. Coverage on ESPN and NFL Network begins at 7:30 p.m., with the first selection anticipated at around 8. The second and third rounds will be held on Friday, beginning at 6 p.m. Both of those days should wrap up at 11 p.m.
The rest of the draft -- the fourth through seventh rounds -- conclude on Saturday, the traditional draft day, beginning at 10 a.m.
Goodell expanded the draft to capitalize on its phenomenal popularity.
"It's about finding new ways to expand upon what you are doing and to find new ways for fans to engage with football," he said at the NFL owners meetings last month. "By creating a prime-time event and doing it over three days, we are able to allow more people to experience the draft. We think it's going to be a nice change and a positive change with our fans."
The changes will affect the way teams operate, also.
Browns General Manager Tom Heckert is among many who expect more trades.
"It's going to be interesting, to say the least," he said. "I think there might be a little more trade movement than usual because you have some extra time in there and more opportunities to trade."
Not too long ago, the draft was divided into rounds 1-3 on the first day and rounds 4-7 on the second day. Teams that owned high picks in the fourth round were considered fortunate because other teams hungry for one desirable player left on their draft boards often came calling with trade offers during the overnight break.
Now, there are two overnight breaks to create such trade opportunities. High picks in round 2 and round 4 may now be highly coveted.
New England coach Bill Belichick sees a different approach to the second round.
"I kind of think the second round will now be like the first round," Belichick said. "Take those [top] 32 players out of there, whoever they are, now you're starting all over again for that second round. And I can see it being approached more as that first round.
"In the past, you kind of rolled into that round. Now, to actually stop and have the whole night to sit there and think about it and talk to other teams and develop a new strategy. Everybody does that on the second day; now we have three days. It's a different dynamic."
In the case of the Browns, who own three picks in the third round, the stop-and-go format gives them more time to plot a trade strategy, to move up from the third round for an additional pick in the second round.
And that could be when the Browns select their quarterback.
Return to tender: None of the Browns' restricted free agents, with the exception of linebacker Jason Trusnik, has signed his one-year tender from the club. These include some prominent starters, such as linebackers D'Qwell Jackson and Matt Roth, safety Abram Elam, running back Jerome Harrison and fullback Lawrence Vickers.
Each has until Thursday to sign an offer sheet from another team, but none looks forthcoming. So why the holdup? It's an easy way to skip out on "voluntary" off-season conditioning workouts. A player without a signed contract doesn't carry the stigma of missing the workouts as does one who is signed.
The restricted free agents have few options other than to sign their tenders. Clubs, on the other hand, can rescind the tenders at any time. That has been known to happen after the draft. Whalen working: The Browns are expecting about 25 area draft-eligible players to show up when they conduct a mass workout at their facility today. This will give them their first exposure to Case Western quarterback Dan Whalen. Whalen, who was not invited to the NFL Combine, has worked out for the Dolphins, Giants and Saints. Whalen also has received encouraging words from new Ravens quarterbacks coach Jim Zorn. Whalen, who clocked 40 times of 4.59 and 4.68 at the Ohio State pro day, also has drawn interest from the Canadian Football League. Calgary claimed his signing rights. King Konz: Kent State linebacker/tight end Jameson Konz has drawn a lot of interest since posting phenomenal workout numbers at his pro day, which was attended only by a Browns scout. Konz has accompanied Whalen to a few of his workouts and also has been bird-dogged by the Saints.
"Jameson Konz is a helluva athlete," said ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper. "He had as good a workout as anybody at any position. He's the kind of guy you bring in and just try to allow him to find a niche. You don't know where it's going to be at the pro level. His workouts were enough to open some eyes." Clip and save: Kiper on the 2011 draft: "If you had to ask me right now who's going to be the No. 1 pick in the 2011 draft, I would say it's etched in stone. It's going to be [University of Washington quarterback] Jake Locker. You can mark that down. If he's not the No. 1 pick, it's an upset."

Just because Bob Sanders has a large injury history does not mean that's indicative of all safeties. As far as my knowledge goes, Berry has no injury history.spartan wrote: i was listening to nfl channel on sirius, they were talking about safeties and bob sanders crazy stat he is played in only 45 games out of 96 total games due to injury, is worth to draft berry so high and having a chance to be injured?

I think all of the elite safeties (Polamalu, Sanders, Reed) have had pretty significant injury histories.

I'm all if favor of Berry if he's there at #7. Just saying injuries seem to be the nature if the beast for that position in the NFL.

I don't know if ANY of those guys REALLY have any NFL experience, especially McShay. The only one who watches serious film and puts time into it is Mayock. Kiper just has "connections."Footwedge wrote:Mel Kiper is an idiot. Jake Locker? Give almost anyone with some NFL knowledge a suit & tie, extensive game film and a microphone and they could probably do as well, if not better, than McShay.
I believe it was Jevan Snead that McShay pumped up SO much that the kid declared thinking he'd be an early round pick. Dude (McShay) is garbage.
