It's kind of funny how people are slowly starting to discredit Dalton, still, and are saying he's just not messing up and letting the team around him perform.
Yet when the team around him was decimated (last year), he got all the blame.
When this season is over, Dalton will hold numerous records for accomplishments for a QB in his first 5 seasons. Somehow, he will still be labeled as a shitty player. It's weird.

You could argue winning one may not be sufficient. 4 yrs of being mediocre to shitty, and now 8 game stretch of great play. I don't blame ppl for not over reacting and jumping on the bandwagon immediately. As for his records, that's just the time of the NFL. It's like comparing salaries, of course any big name FA is going to be paid more than the best player of the 1980s, doesn't mean they're better players.

Thing is though...he came in as a 2nd rounder...started day 1, has led playoff teams every year. I just think expectations jumped very fast for him BECAUSE they got to the playoffs so quickly. A QB who slowly got built up and took 3-4 years to even make the playoffs wouldn't get the same criticism.
He's actually been mediocre to good his entire career, at least 80% of it. It's just the bad 20% usually came in the playoff games or the spotlight games where he got some attention. He's got a near 88 overall QBR for his career.
...and yes, he can win league MVP this year but if he chokes in his first playoff game, the arguments will remain.

He's got more wins in his first 5 years as any QB...ever. He's got more road wins in his first 5 years...ever. That's a pretty big sample size of QB's over a long period of time. Agreed. In the absurd Tom Brady-Peyton Manning debate the Brady supporters point to the times the Colts lost in the second round after getting a bye and say that's a bad result.
