But it's a much better explanation for why A-Rod would work with him than your lame steroids quip.

Just saying it probably isnt the best impression to make when you just are coming off a year long suspension.

Steroids may have made Bonds hit the ball farther, but doesn't really help your eyesight, your technique, your approach. It's not like A-Rod is hanging with Pete Rose. ;)

Last time I saw Bonds he looked about 30 lbs lighter than we remember him and looked like a chiseled sculpture

Before Bonds went to San Fran and the steroid noise came into play, it was a two-man contest between him and Griffey Jr. for best overall five-tool player in the bigs, so I'm pretty sure he'd be helpful in those other categories, as well.

RIP Ernie Banks

I really wish he could've witnessed a Cubs World Series championship.

Part of why I think he should easily be in the HOF. He was a HOF player and the best player in baseball before he took illegal substances. You just have these old fuck curmudgeons who won't vote for bonds, because bonds was not nice to them when he played :(.

Yeah. I kinda feel the same way. There's a bit of two-way personal bias for me in that I'm hugely biased towards him as a Pirate and hugely biased about him leaving and then becoming Roidy Homerton in San Fran (although I understand why he left, as he was departing a small-market team whose window of opportunity was slamming shut, it still pisses me off).

In a way, the fact he was so great probably is why he was so deadly as a roider. You take a guy who's in the top 1% of all-time players at hitting the ball and then chemically enhance them. Teams had no choice but to play "walk-a-Bonds" when they played SF because he could see everything and punish pitchers for anything they remotely gave him.

Weaver, Wilson, 16 game winner in Shoemaker?

Calhoun, Pujols, Aybar, Trout. Rutledge hit .269.

Martinez x 2, Miggy, Kinsler.....not 6.

I like it. He is going to be a key piece to any type of rebuild that is happening.

Did anyone see ESPN.com preseason rankings? Picked the Pirates and Indians as the #3 and #4 teams in baseball this season:huh:

As a Pirates fan, I can see that if a few things roll their way.

Primarily, being able to overcome the loss of Martin at C (more for defense, pitch-framing and handling a staff than offense); hoping Burnett has enough in the tank to provide more than veteran leadership; hoping Harrison doesn't regress too much and hoping to get quality contributions out of an untested bench (guys such as "too good for AAA, but hasn't shown anything in the bigs" Lambo and The Korean Mystery). And, of course, it'd be nice if Pedro got pop back in his bat and if Walker could be a bit healthier.

But they have the personnel to be really good and the ground-ball-pitchers/shift-based-defense philosophy down to a science, so they're a pretty sure bet to be in the good-to-great zone. Third is what I'd consider a very optimistic look at the upcoming season, though — much along the same lines as virtually every post you make about the Tigers.

Ha well when you win the division every year you get optimistic that they'll break through eventually

Josh Hamilton summoned to NY for disciplinary reasons..........

When a baseball exec was asked if it was because of PED's the answer was...."worse".

Had always wondered if he would fall back to his old life. I think that was part of why the reds traded him..that and thinking he had peaked (which he hadnt)

I've heard speculation that it could be gambling but it I was to bet on it, I'd say he went back to his old ways.

They've already reported that he was back into hard drugs. "At least cocaine."

Too bad. I know with the reds he had Narron's brother or cousin follow him around. He would give his wife his per diem money as to not be tempted. All is well and good but there was always that thought that if he didnt trust himself enough then he would ultimately fall back. Reds got rid of him when they thought his stock was the highest. Well, it got a big higher after that but injuries has hurt him and now this.
