I don't think you understand what I am saying, or just plain don't know what I am talking about.

All true and good points. I'm very excited about the defense next season with Moeller returning and Ohrian getting his shot at Safety. Hopefully we'll see Sabino start to understand our schemes. He'd be an asset with how quick he is and how well he excels in coverage.LJ wrote:Well see, if that is the base defense, they won't need to switch into nickel as much. If they run that base 4-2-4 with a hybrid, it would definitely be an every game "base". Then when you really need to you pull Homan and put another db in, which would then be a 4-1-5 with a hybrid. So technically, even starting a game needing another DB, it would probably start out in the base 4-2-4 with a hybrid.charliehustle14 wrote:I hope so.LJ wrote:Not only this, but I think it will be the base defense in 2010charliehustle14 wrote: I think Moeller is headed to Hines' hybrid spot and Hines is moving full time to Safety.
Of course, our base defense changes weekly depending on the opponent.
If you know you're going to "fall into it" and a team keeps torching you, at what point do you say screw it, Freeman can't cover these guys. You put a LB/S (cough Hines, Cie Grant) in who can cover the guys if they go out for a pass, but can also help in run support. Its really not that difficultLJ wrote:
So then it's comparable to when we had Homan and Freeman covering RB's then, correct? The matchup was the same, and every team falls into it, and every team exploits it.
Bingo. Teams can audible into things at the line where you don't have the personnel to counter it, no matter what you do. I guess people think that the play callers should always be 100% accurate 100% of the time. Sorry, but that isn't how the game of football works.charliehustle14 wrote: You could have a defensive full of All Americans and you're still going to fall into match up problems. That's the chess match of college football and why teams employ offensive coordinators.
It's really not at all that simple. A good O-Coord is always going to find something to exploit. We exploited Bowe (or was it Rowe?) a few times last night. We had Sanzo on a LB a few times last night that we exploited.jordo212000 wrote:If you know you're going to "fall into it" and a team keeps torching you, at what point do you say screw it, Freeman can't cover these guys. He is an agile 310, could lose some weight but overall he will be a beast at the DT spot.darbypitcher22 wrote: Can Floyd move?
I know we don't need a sloppy 300 lber clogging up space that can't run to the football....
We have been trying to get big DT's for some time and just never have gotten any interest. Floyd has a ton of upside.darbypitcher22 wrote: I guess I just didn't realize how he fits anything that we do @ 310... we don't have anybody that big, and our bigger guys are agile and can run...the best use of his skills would seem to be as a 2 gap noseguard in a 3-4, something we don't run
With Floyd, think Gerald McCoy.darbypitcher22 wrote: I guess I just didn't realize how he fits anything that we do @ 310... we don't have anybody that big, and our bigger guys are agile and can run...the best use of his skills would seem to be as a 2 gap noseguard in a 3-4, something we don't run
It's possible. Floyd's high school stats and accolades mirror McCoy and their size in high school mirror each other as well. McCoy worked hard in the weight room and is a solid 295-300 now. If Floyd puts in that same kind of work, he could perform just like McCoy.darbypitcher22 wrote: if I'm going to think Gerald McCoy he better blow somebody up every play and make Guards lives a living hell

Spitler waited 4 years to start. Moeller will replace Spitler. Bell and Sabino will have to wait their turn.77Legend wrote: Do you guys think we may see Dorian Bell and Etienne Sabino a little more next season. I know both of these young men were highly touted coming out of high school, and that means nothing in college, but I thought I would see them a lot more this past season....your thoughts?
Best thing for these type of players is to look at their offer list imo. It tells you that not only OSU thinks highly of him, but some of the best programs in the country also think the same thing.darbypitcher22 wrote: Well the first thing from that video that jumps out at you is the size. I know this is a tape from his JR year, hopefully he got better at this, is he looks like he plays a little high, saw some guys get into his chest and isn't real sure with his hands yet... sometimes he uses them real well, other times not so much. Looks like he gives great effort, a couple of plays on screens and one or two sideline to sideline plays he made from the backside that were impressive
