Take Dallas, for instance. All that has to happen is for one, or several, of these people who have been exposed show up to a Cowboys or Mavericks game where there are thousands. They expose it to 20-40 people who in turn expose it to more and so on, and so on.

To think this isn't airborne is pretty naive. All it takes is a sneeze, whether directly on someone or perhaps airborne particals settle on a doorknob, or a faucet handle (as examples, make up your own scenario). This shit doesn't die for FOUR days. Transmitting it isn't that difficult.

I'm not saying we need to go into full on panic mode but people seem to be taking a laid back "it won't turn into a mass epidemic here" attitude when it's quite possible.
If it were airborne, there'd be millions of people around the world with it, not 2 in Dallas who came in direct contact.

I'm not "worried" quite yet, but I am skeptical of some of the idiots in charge of controlling this virus in the US and their ability to stop the spread of the virus.

Exactly. I don't think they know what they are doing.

We have a different definition of "airborne" apparently. Do I think you could get it from someone breathing on you? No, but I don't doubt that it could be transmitted from a sneeze.

The issue with the two (count 'em - two) cases has nothing to do with the "idiots in charge", it was a failure of execution.

There's reason to worry for simple fact that people travel and people in general can be unsanitary and people put off going to hospitals until its almost too late. If everyone minded their manners, so to speak, and were sanitary and diligent, there'd be no outbreak.

Correct. To me, airborne means you and an infected person could simply sit in a room and just breathe, and you could get sick. You can get the flu that way, you cannot get Ebola that way (and yes, the science is definitive in that regard).

Even sneezing isnt airborne. Mucus doesnt float in air. You'd have to be sneezed on. Ebola doesnt stay in tiny droplets that can stay in air, so no it's not airborne. It's been said there's not even enough virus in the mucus until you're deathly sick.

Precisely my earlier point. Using Dallas as an example, if one of the people exposed shows up at a sporting event with thousands of people, exposes them in some way, some of those people travel, etc, etc. I'll breathe a sigh of relief when I hear "no Ebola cases in 3 weeks."

There really isn't. The Enterovirus D-68 is a far bigger threat, but for some reason isn't as "sexy" in terms of media coverage.

The disease isn't contagious until symptomatic. You'd have to be a hard core fan to attend a game as sick as you'd have to be to be a threat.

What's your reasoning for this?

Because everyone else who is in charge of something in this country is a moron, no reason to believe the CDC would be any different.

But no I don't have scientific research to back up my claim.

In that case, I must ask. What did you mean by the statement below?

"People from little old Africa aren't exactly hopping on planes, taking vacations, attending sporting events, etc where this can spread RAPIDLY. We're not in a 'tribal' type society. We get out a little more and expose ourselves to a lot more than they do."

Isn't little, old Africa where the person who brought it to the US was coming from? Aside from that, given that Freetown has approximately 8700 people per square mile, I'd say they're very much living in a state that would allow it to spread rapidly. They're also not tribal, and it would appear that they expose themselves to others around them every bit as much as we do. Probably moreso.

The 2nd healthcare worker that got Ebola this week flew on an airplane from Cleveland to DFW on Monday. No worries though.

If they were symptomatic and feverish at the time it may be a reason to worry. Otherwise, you're right, no worries.

This. You should trust everything the government tells you.

I mean if it has little chance of spreading, the government is just wasting their time wanting to interview all 130 others that were on the plane.
