Yet another hazard of letting it go to a 3-2 count! These Missouri teams keep overcoming their own mistakes!Ironman92;1662996 wrote:Tie game on a passed ball....scored from 2nd! Atrocious 3-2 pitch

Lots of talk on lower the mound possibly. What do you guys think about it? It would get scoring back up and save pitchers arms a bit, but more runs may lengthen games even more which I think is the real problem

Heard some people bring that up. Not sure if there is real discussion about it. I wouldnt do it quite yet. Baseball is always slow to move, and right now we are seeing the full effect of the drug testing. I think we may see a little different approach going forward from hitting coaches as not everyone can jerk it outta the park anymore.Classyposter58;1663060 wrote:Lots of talk on lower the mound possibly. Choate reminds me of Bill Bray. Bring him in to face the lefties and he tries to pitch too fine and walks his lefty(actually thought the 3-2 pitch that was 6" outside was a strike). He failed on each of the three batter, maybe breaking even on his pitching to the 3rd, but making the final fail on the throw after fielding the bunt.

Fucking Royals, man. Unreal. Clutch hitting. Lights out bully. Lights out might be an understatement. Herrera, Davis and Holland are ridiculous right now and have been for most the year. Moving Davis to the pen has been a great move for them. Hopefully, the try him back as a starter and it totally messes him up. The Rangers did that with Neftali Feliz after he was a dominate closer. It lead to injury and took him 2 years to regain any semblance of his old form.
Not rooting for an injury to Davis but I don't like the Tribe's chances vs the Royals if these guys carry this postseason over into next year and get even better.

Are the royals the new model on how to win the MLB with the power numbers way down? Defense, speed and small ball? They ahve more Sac flies this post season than all other teams combined.

Yes ...I think they are. They are constructed to win the World Series, which is always about pitching and defense. Baltimore(and Detroit) are constructed to get to the postseason....by a powerful offense that bludgeons the weak teams and racks up season wins....but when they get to the playoffs and face tough pitching start to finish, the power numbers evaporate. KC scraps for runs....its HR total as a team was the lowest in the league, but in a playoff pitcher's duel...they know how to score the winning run .

Someone mentioned about the talk of moving the mound down because runs are down, and heard it on sportstalk as well at times.HitsRus;1663906 wrote:Yes ...I think they are. It will take a little bit of time to evolve. High school and college started to use these BBCOR (batted ball coefficient of restitution) and the act more like wood bats as the ball just dont jump off the bat like they used to. Scoring is way down in college as well. CWS games used to be slugfests no matter how good the pitching seemed to be before this. The new bats have helped pitchers get a more even playing field (and drug testing in MLB as well). Pitchers in college can now pitch more aggressively now with less fear of every tom, footwedge and harry hitting the ball outta the yard and that is translating to more K's as pitching is more aggressive.
It will take time for the generation of players who were not relying on the long ball to get all the way through the systems and start learing more contact at a level before they get to the minors and the wood bats.
