I was watching the SF-Dallas game and the announcers briefly mentioned Ray McDonald. Didn't pay attention to their actual words, but they definitely weren't in the "WHY THE HELL IS THIS GUY ALLOWED TO PLAY?!?!?" line. More like being good l'il NFL mouthpieces and just briefly and awkwardly bringing it up in more of a football context.

Goodell is big in the whole "protect the shield" mentality. Seems like the only ones who take that shit seriously are the guys who are paid to report on (or commentate games involving) the NFL. If it wasn't for sites like Deadspin or TMZ, this whole thing could have probably been swept under the rug because I'm thinking "protect the shield" nowadays has more to do with protecting the league's image in the wake of conduct issues, rather than the actual conduct itself.

I don't think McDonald should be suspended at this point. He has maintained his innocence, and the league is right to let the facts play out in that case.

I actually agree with you, but if the NFL went and banned Rice for life when the courts basically gave him a way out (counseling)...how about the one that was ACTUALLY found guilty and he is still playing?

Courts are one thing, but the video trumped whatever the law did or did not do. I dont think he is banned for life, just indefinantly but I doubt anyone would ever sign him.
I would like to know what the NFL says about the one guy who was already found guilty and what excuse they have.

Only difference between Rice and the guy that was found guilty is Rice's was caught on camera.

I don't agree with the way Roger Goodell dealt with this situation although I do believe him stating that he has never seen this video until yesterday morning. The NFL has sixty-four hired hands (two per team) to police any issues that compromise league policies and/or rules. With that said Goodell and the NFL as a business should be held highly accountable for the investigation or lack there of concerning the Ray Rice issue. The two NFL reps that were supposedly investigating this case should be held accountable simply for there effortless attempt to gather all the evidence needed to correctly issue the punishment to Rice in the first place. The NFL is a multi-billion dollar business and financially capable of obtaining this video just as TMZ has but they didn't. Ultimately this is on Goodell as the commissioner, however he will only see what is brought to his desk by the people he hired or inevitably the press looking for the next story to publish. When it's all said and done I believe Goodell should be fined himself for mishandling a situation just as coaches, players, and owners are held accountable for their actions.

There is absolutely nothing out there to suggest that. The NFLPA wants this resolved as quickly as possible.

Most think by Thursday at the latest.

The tweets I read pretty much said it won't be done any time soon. Plus the pessimist in me led to that post.

Ed Werder reporting on ESPN that NFL players have agreed on raising testing threshold for pot which would immediately bring 20players back.
