I'm curious as to why OSH has such a strong opinion on the topic.

Oh, yeah, that's right. A high horse expects people to be sober and driving. To drive responsibly. To not put their lives and the lives of others at danger. If that's the case, then yes, the horse is high.
Like you don't text and drive which is on par with drinking and driving in terms of distractions. You can go fuck yourself now

It's pretty easy to drive smashed if you're highly coordinated

Cool.

Family members almost killed due to an intoxicated driver between 1-3pm (AFTERNOON!) and it was the driver's 7th violation. Not much was done beforehand with said driver. My wife and I have also let her brother know that our child will not be riding with him anytime soon due to his 2 DUIs in 1-2 years.

Texting and driving isn't illegal -- in many states. Big difference.

It's really not that hard to get a DD or just drink somewhere where you don't have to drive. I've been a DD since I was 17. I have been called at all hours of the day. All my friends know that I'm available to drive if/when they may need one. Sometimes I'm even paid with a 2am drunk cooking an egg sandwich because "it's the best egg sandwich ever."

So because it's legal that makes it less dangerous? Got it

No. It just means he doesn't feel the need to punish you for the one time you text a couple years ago.

Texting and driving will be illegal soon enough. Then the cops can come and arrest everyone who did it in the past.

I got one in my late twenties. Frankly I should have gotten more than I can count. I am an alcoholic and realized that one of the side effects of not being able to drink responsibly is the tendency to drive when I don't belong behind the wheel. I quit drinking many years ago. When I look back on those years, this is the thing I'm most ashamed of - putting people at risk by driving drunk. One of the benefits of not drinking is that I don't have to worry about doing this anymore.

I don't deserve any respect. I'm just grateful I didn't kill anyone when I drove impaired. As for me, I never questioned whether driving impaired is dangerous. My problem is that when drunk, my perception changed entirely and I thought I was fine. It's the classic, "na, I am fine to drive" excuse.

Yeah ya do. You recognized you had a problem and took care of it. We may not agree on anything related to sports, NEO, politics or pretty much anything else. But I do acknowledge and respect individuals who attempt to better themselves and as a result the lives around them. Hats off to you today Dr.
