They told me the gas must have been bad to make the carberatuer blow. Said I must have left the gas can, or mower, out in the rain with the cap open or some BS like that. It was just their way of trying to get out of the warranty. There was nothing wrong ith the gas, it was less than a month old, never been opened out in the rain, and worked perfectly fine the two times I mowed with the other mower while the new one was in the shop.
Contacted the actual manufacture and they said they stand behind what the dealers told them and would have to go through alot of hoops to get any progress so I said fuck it and paid the 75 bucks to get fixed.

Brought the gas to another place and they said it appeared fine.

We are getting a push reel mower, so we won't have to worry about any of that BS.

LIke those old time ones with no motor and such?

Got one for our dad a few years ago. Was tough to find one. Is kinda neat for a litle while!

I spend alot of time on the yard. I guess I should add in about 120 bucks for yard fertilizer. Mowed last monday, and put more down, and last night it was a fucking forest it grew so much had to bag the damn grass.

Yes, but a brand new one. Probably a Fiskar's. My brother just got one and he loves it. He actually started researching after we told him we were getting one, but just happened to buy his first.

Looks pretty cool. Dont think I would want to do that to my whole yard though.

Ours is small, so that's not a concern for us.

Tradition it seems 1000.00 goes into flowers, bushes, potting soil and hanging baskets, 500.00 for mulch (every other year).
my garden is not included ....
mower and equipment is another budget expense, same goes for furniture, grills and other yard type items

Just hate paying for mulch. The free mulch I get isnt the best, but saving that much $$$ is worth it. Neighbors bought all theirs and were jealous even though their's looks a little better.

While we are on the topic...what do you all do for yard fertilizing? Do you have some company come in and spray?
I use regular fertilizer for the correct time of year. Found that the cheap stuff just isnt as good as Scotts. Found some that thwarts the dandelions pretty good. My yard is night and day to the neighbors with much of them. Can def tell where I skimped on that product though.

For years I did my own, year after year battling every weed and trying to get my yard to look the best.
I found a guy who is an independent he does my yard for less that my cost would have been if I bought the weed and feed. Three application two spray and one granules, he's good and knows his business, plus reasonable priced ( cash)

Yeah, been kicking around hiring a company to do it but I like to do shit myself. Think will look into the price.

After a couple of years its finally getting very thick and looking good.

I'm debating on whether buying parts for my current Toro, or just buying a new mower.

Rear wheel is broken, pin is bent, and the piece that holds the pin has worn threads. In my effort to fix things by comparing opposing wheel, pin, and bracket, I noticed that wheel is on its way to being broken. (Friggin plastic pieces.)

All in all, it'll cost me roughly $135 to fix. New mower!? As low as $250! So for about half the price I'm putting on two new wheels. But for double that price, I'll get a whole new mower! My question: no matter which way I choose to go, can I get another 11 hassle-free years out of it? (And really, it is a small price to pay for all that she's given me.)

ps: some of the above mowers look tempting.

thevoice: for 6 or 7 years, I purchased the Scott's seasonal fertilizers - all six installments - and laid them when the package recommended. Not once was I satisfied with the results. I justified continuing because I thought, "This looks bad, but what would it look like without my efforts."

Sensing my disgruntlement, my wife told me about a guy she graduated with who has a lawn company, and who could spray it 5 times a year at $35/spray.

To start, that was a comparable price after factoring in the spreader purchase and application time. Then the results came! Best $35 x 5 I've ever spent. (And what's better is the "pay up front and get money off" discount he offers!!!)

I dont do all the installments, but over the last few years I found the scotts to work much better than the ACE brand at the store. Cost more and I wanted to make it work with the ace brand but it just wasnt cutting it. Just seemed like so much more filler in the cheaper brand. Now that I went to all scotts its hasnt looked this good ever so I am happy with it considering I still use those stupid little hand crank spreaders!!!! I think it looks pretty good and the only one in the neighborhood that is close is one that has his sprayed. If he would just let his yard grow a little longer it would surpass mine.

Stained the deck this weekend. That was a fun chore but man does it look good.
Had some left after a second coat so I did a table and a bench that needed it.

As much as it stunk.......now I think i am going to do the swingset/treehouse next! Also got the garden in and a few other things and I am probably at $150 maybe.

Being a lawn geek, I made my own roller to pulll behind the mower to get those "ballpark" type designs. After a few swipes back and forth it didnt seem worth it but after awhile you could really see it!

Have done the checkerboard before, but for this first time this weekend will try it with that roller. takes a bit more time and only do it for bigger type of weekends.

We spent the entire Memorial Day weekend working in the backyard and spent quite a bit at Lowe's. We are happy with the progress so far, but we still have some finishing touches to make.
