Again, if you are just flying to get somewhere it is fine (and I would probably suggest it). But if you are a work traveler or will be making lots of trips to places, no one would ever choose SW. There are no benefits to it outside of cost (which, again, is negligible once you have flown about 10 times on another airline).
Again, plane snob thread is needed. I'd rather fly SW than any other airline.

Well I've flown a lot in my short working career and really don't find much of a huge difference between flying other airlines and SW. It's all branding and marketing which hoodwinks the general public into thinking something is better because its named better. The reality is SW is low cost, has beautiful planes, allows 2 free checked bags per flight, and has a no fuss boarding policy. Yeah it's first class sucks but really it's a plane flight, 9/10 I just sleep or get drunk anyway.

Remember when Skybus was in Columbus? Very low fares, no frills and such and flew out at shitty times and to small airports. I flew them 4-5 times and each flight was packed.

but they just charged too little to stay in business I suppose.

All that is true.

I just prefer to pay a little more up front (took about a year for all 4 major airlines), for a lot more advantages down the line. I dont pay for checked bags on any airline anymore and I book shit seats on American and Delta and will 90% of the time get upgraded to 1st class at no charge, just have to pick the flights that are likely to not be full. I get drunk or sleep also, but I prefer the drinks to be free (1st class) lol.

I did this once, but it was the destination I skipped out on not the origin and it was before 9/11.

I was flying from Akron/Canton to Jackson, MS. The area I was going to was about halfway between Jackson, MS and Memphis, TN. My flight to Jackson connected through Memphis. A straight flight from CAK to Memphis was more expensive than the connecting flight from CAK to Jackson connecting through Memphis.

I just had the people I was going to see pick me up at Memphis and only took a carry on.

No one got upset about that stuff and cancelled flights way back then, but with 9/11 and TSA now, forget about it.

I may have been duped a few years ago but I was flying home from Virginia and flew to Cincy and then dayton. There was like a 4 hour layover in CVG and I was just going to have someone pick me up at CVG instead of dayton and not have that big layover and the airline say it wasnt allowed. Being the last leg I am not sure what they would have done though.

I used them one time, flying to Greensboro. It was a nice plane, but you literally paid for everything. Nothing was free on board. I don't even think you got peanuts and a drink with out paying. Also, my flight was not even close to being packed. They actually had to move people around because there was so much empty space.

Pretty sure they gave out free pop on our flights, but they pushed the skymall thing prett heavy. I always flew to Richmond Va which was close enough to Virginia Beach..maybe that had alot to do with it.

Except ppl start crowding the shit out if the line 45 min ahead of time, waste time trying to find an aisle seat even though they're group d, put luggage in the back but sit in the front, etc.... It's ridiculous.

You are not in a group. You are an exact letter and number. People try to cut and push up past their spot.

Then, if you have more than 1 person traveling with you, its very possible you wont be sitting together.\

EDIT: And its ridiculous to have to wake up early in the morning to sign in exactly 24 hours ahead of time to get a better boarding letter/number

I have never flown Southwest. I almost want to now just so I can weigh in on this.

I fly Spirit Detroit to Vegas. Usually fly Delta out of Detroit anywhere else. I am going to Cancun in November and Delta flies out of Detroit direct to Cancun. I was pumped when I found that out.

No, you cannot.
Once you don't show up for your first flight, the airlines will know that you did not check in to that first flight and they will cancel any remaining bookings you have for that flight itinerary.

You could always schedule 2 one ways. Maybe then you could skip last leg. Tell them you're sick or something. Or had an emergency and are staying there. Not sure it'd work. But not sure on a one way they can really do anything about it

My brother used to pretty much always get one way flights, and travel with just a carry on.

He would get searched pretty much every time.

Never thought about the search part. But I did a one way from Hawaii to Oakland and got completely searched. And then again from Columbus to Sacramento. Never once thought about the one way thing. I just figured I was unlucky twice.

Yeah, he got it pretty much every time. Guess they feel terrorist wouldnt need a return flight.
Funny thing about the one time I dropped him off, my brother got the extra search while 2 arabs didnt garner a second peak from TSA. My brother was obviously military but I guess a one way ticket was more of a red flag than anything else.

I once flew roundtrip from Ohio to San Diego via SW for around $220.

Now a 55 min flights from NYC to Pittsburgh (home airport) is $300+.

Was there a stop in Minneapolis on that Ohio to SD trip?
That is about the price we paid from Columbus to SD a number of years ago with that stop. Forget the airline.
