fans black or white will attend the games where the talent is. the players are the product. you could call the league whatever you want. wherever lebron plays fans will come.

i would also add that ticket sales isnt really where they make the money. tv, jerseys, shoes, luxery boxes more so than straight ticket sales.
This is my theory on black ownership in professional sports.

It is so low mostly becuase owners tend to be older, and loaded with money from family, or their business dealings from years and years ago. There are just so many more rich old white dudes now than black guys in comparision. Mostly has to do with the "recent" opportunities that blacks have, and when I saw recent I mean in the last 30+ years which is recent in comparison.
As time goes on, more and more black guys will have amassed enough $$$ to be able to really become owners of pro franchises. It will happen, just not overnight.

Wonder what they will do to this guy. M and M this AM had a legal guy on there saying they can fine the guy 2.5 million and ban him for an undetermined amount of time.

i read this a little bit ago.

Several league officials – including owners and Board of Governors members – told Yahoo Sports they believe Silver has been studying the nuclear option on Sterling: a provision in the NBA's bylaws that would allow Silver to summon a vote of league owners to strip Sterling of his ownership. The NBA would run the Clippers until the team could be sold.

The League running a team is a TERRIBLE idea. But getting Sterling out is a must, IMO.

Also, Magic had a tweet last night shooting down the rumors of him buying the Clippers.

I'm not so sure you would get the votes. Even though many owners think his words were despicable, I they might also think that stripping ownership based on a private conversation is a very dangerous path to forge.

hes just so bad for business..if you dont then what if sponsors get scared to work with any nba team for fear of alienating customers which could snowball if you dont take action.

@darrenrovell: If the league fined Sterling $1 million, it would be the equivalent of fining the avg American $20.16.

I think it's going to be a very large number.

I think the NBA will take action. That action may not include stripping him of ownership.

A lawyer on M and M this AM stated in the NBA constitution they could fine him up to 2.5 million.
So that is like over 50 bucks to the normal folk.

CCrunner wouldnt be able to handle it

And almost all of it goes toward operating expenses.

The order doesn't go buy professional team, become rich. It works the other way around.

Yeah, pretty sure a couple of years ago I read an article about owners in the big 3 sports. Pretty much all of them made their $$$ elsewhere before getting a professional franchise. The huge money they make while the owner doesnt really come while they own the team, it comes when they sell it. Just like in this case...this tool bought them for like 18 mil and will see for over 500.

This weekend thy were saying it was worth just over 500 million, but I imagine a bidding war is going to jump that $$ quite a bit.

Sports teams seem to always sell way over the "value" that the experts and/or lists say a team is worth.
