I'm wondering what legal standing the NBA would have to take action on an illegal recording (CA, where I assume the recording was made, has a two-party consent law to recording private conversations).

@ZachLowe_NBA: League sources say Silver/league, not Sterling, would control Clips sales process in event Silver gets the required 3/4 vote to force it.

Again, I really don't think Sterling is just going to roll over and take it in the ass from the league. I expect him to fight it.

The $2.5 million will come out of the girlfriend's paycheck. She should have known better than to hang out with a slime-ball plaintiff's trial attorney.

What I hate most is the $2.5 million is going to go to anti-discrimination groups which are in reality groups run by minorities who race bait for more funding. The best way to get rid of discrimination in this country is to get rid of anti-discrimination laws and AA. That would make everyone equal regardless of race.

California does have a 2 party consent law on phone recordings. But a 3rd party can use them as long as it is not a criminal prosecution.

I believe it was Jim Gray(lol!!) who got a response from him this afternoon...

"The team is not for sale" I think is what it was.

Glad to see this action taken. It's amazing that this man got away with so many outrageous acts of discrimination to this point without the NBA doing something about it and especially the LA branch of the NAACP. Never the less the appropriate action was taken and hopefully the sale of the team will come this off season and even more hopeful is that no member of that family will continue to own the Clippers.

The nba is a brand. When you hurt the brand u can be forced out. If u own ur own pizza shop u can say whatever u want. If you own a papa johns and u put a swastika in the window u can be forced out. U run a business within a bigger business. This is all about the $$$

Sure. And I think on that basis the [private] league has a right to sanction him as some sort of moral clause. However, I think it's potentially a gray area when you start talking about the league forcing and/or managing the sale of the team. The latter would be a sort of loophole to enable blackmail.

If they force you while simultaneously fining you, would you pay it?

Anyone know the legal ramifications of sterling just not paying the fine?

Doubt that he cares what it would be. PRobably would be cheaper to pay it then try to fight it.

Could it be a simple as the league witholding that much money from any of the league sharged $$$?

Maybe my edit answered it..that they would just take it from the revenue sharing...
