I imagine we'd have to give up a boatload for him. He definitely would have a huge asking price. I could see a combination of prospects and current performers such as Salazar, Frazier, etc. Can't see the Marlins really considering anything that didn't include some serious pieces.

The asking price would be astronomical. And probably worth it. No way the Indians are shelling out a $20 mil extension.

Even without an extension, he is probably worth it. You have him through 2016 on his rookie deal, though arbitration will be a lot for him. But, at 2.5 years, worth it.

I dont think it would cost a boatload, either, depending on your definition.

If so the price is way too high. Dude's only 24 and is coming up on an extension we could afford probably 1 year of let alone the 8-10 he will likely get.

My question is why we are seemingly unable to draft our own young slugger? We don't spend in free agency, we don't draft particularly well, what is it exactly that we do?

I just went back and looked at where we stood in 2008 on this date and it was 12-13. This year we are 11-14.

Instead of using the momentum of a break out season we did nothing to improve the team in the off-season (actually took valuable pieces away) and get off to a fast start we are once again just treading water hoping things improve as the season goes on.

He hasnt really been amazing. If the Marlins were asking for a ton, someone might give it to them, but he isnt worth killing the organization for. He just fits this team perfectly.

FWIW, most think the Red Sox are after him the hardest, and the package that "experts" think would get it done doesnt have Bogarts on it (he is their "Lindor" on no trade). Middlebrooks is the feature player who is in the bigs, and we have plenty who can fill in that role. Their other prospects aren't ranked that high, but they do have a deeper system. Id think a MLB ready player and Frazier might be enough to headline a deal. But, it would have to come down to the other bids.

I get what you're saying about him having 2.5 years left, but in reality it is only a year and a half because we know that the team can't afford him. Quite frankly his arbitration payments would likely be more than the Dolan's would want to spend.

Entering his walk year there would be intense pressure to move him just like with CC and Lee because it would be unquestionable he wouldn't be back.

This team just can't make those kind of moves.

If the team truly wanted to go "all in" on a window I could see it maybe, but there have no intention of ever going all in. They are more of a "if we contend, great" kind of group than a go for broke if we think we're on the cusp.

This off-season to me spoke volumes that having contended for the first time in 6 years not only did they feel no urgency coming into this year but they down graded the talent. If ever there was a time to strike while the iron was hot it was then, but they don't think like us fans do.

The pop-ups today when he was ahead in the count said it all to me. For a few games he was hitting the ball relatively hard (so was Asdrubal), but this series was just a joke. Im hoping Lindor can provide a spark...or hell, they he gets a call up June 1st lol

I think this series forces Francona to make a move. You just can't have guys killing rally after rally. At least move Santana down in the order and put a productive bat in the 4 hole. It is bad enough that Swish is hitting .220.....but .120 is barely half of that.
