Football isnt like basketball. In terms of the big 3 sports, the "better" team wins a much higher % than in the other sports. In football you can impose your will much easier than in basketball.
You dont need a playoff with a huge amount of teams for football.

thanks for the input but was trying to taking all the factors out about people being able to bitch about someone not getting in the champs would play 14 games (just like most teams now) the big confrences and small confrences are in (not like now) and ever team has a chance to get in the bracket. (not possible with strenght of schedule now).

I hated using the basketball formula but the 16 team bracket is better but it gives room for some slap dick to complan about fresno state or virgina tech not being in because of being 17 or some horsesh#& like that. March madness for football would probably kill the small market schools ( jobs scholorships coachs ) if you only play nine games and your done then what. Bad example on my part but i love the sworm of ideas getting throw around.

Hope one day it is a deeper playoff format but it took how many years to get a four team playoff

So, what you're saying is that if a MAC team goes unbeaten and wins their conference championship game and a B1G team has one loss against a Top 10 opponent, but wins their conference championship game, the MAC team is better and deserves into the playoffs before the B1G team would.

Under the current system no MAC school should ever play for the championship undefeated or not. When I said "They are equal" I was cleraly talking about the 'BCS' conferences and not the irrelevant mid majors. However, given your scenario, both are conference champions and deserve it over anyone who did not win their own conference.

After all the talk about this what if we got a 8 team playoff starting in the first weekend in December? In light of history how many of those teams that finished 9-16 in the polls before bowl games could have a shot year in and year out? I believe this idea has been stated and think it is border line brilliant. 5 confrance champs and three at large bigs. The question then becomes who are the at large pics a one loss independent (ND) some confrence runner up's? A cinderella story team Boise State a few years ago Northern Illonois? I hope we can get to this point to see a true champ way overbored on my 64 team idea MY BAD.

ND should get an autobid every year even if they are 0-12. I'd love to watch them get blown out on the big stage year after year.

SEC teams don't want to play Ohio State because they don't want to get blown out in the shoe ever year and ruin their mythical superiority. I'd love for Ohio State to schedule a home and home with Alabama, LSU, and Auburn. The MAC is better than any team in the SEC East so we can stick with those opponents going forward.

Lets be real , OSU doesnt want any part of the SEC and the humiliation that goes along with it. last time i checked OSU couldnt even beat Clemson from the ACC.

OSU does want a part of the SEC. I've stated many times I'd love to play the SEC West every year but the reality is the SEC has no interest in coming to Columbus. The Clemson loss can't be anymore embarrassing than losing to Oklahoma or 1-hit wonder Florida State.

No doubt it wont happen.

And now with a 4 team playoff....why even try it? If you are a big ten, or sec team, and go undefeated you are in the playoff. No doubt. (unless maybe you schdule some non DI NC teams).
The need to try and have one decent/great NC game will dwindle even more.
