Remember e how excited we were when we signed Fausto to a lengthy deal? Management was wise in saying no to Mr. clean. He probably lost over 50 million dollars this season in not accepting 13 million. Next year I doubt if anyone offers more than 3 million per year.
I'm not giving up on Kip yet...played the season with a lot of nagging injuries. Even if the Kipnis deal isn't as good as we hoped, they sure hit on Brantley, Gomes, and passing on Masterson. I, for one, sure gave them a lot of negs for not signing an "ACE" when they had a chance. LOL. Good thing I'm not in that front office :D
Team should be pretty good shape with pitching next year.

Kipnis hit 284 with 17 homers in 2013. In 2012, he hit 257. So it's hard to say what the future holds for him. Didn't like his power outage this year either.

Spot on with both of these.

Also, I can see the tribe making a run back to the playoffs next year.

Well, I was close.

That's a pretty good record for the shit line up that they trotted out there on a regular basis.

Kudos to the starting pitching.

We have months to recap it and I'm sure we will have an offseason thread to debate all of this but some initial thoughts.

Overall, a positive season. I think the team was who were thought they were. Some unlucky breaks and bad defense costs us some games early in the year that would have been helpful down the stretch.

The Good-

-Tito and the staff. They get these guys to play and never give up on a game...even when they get down early. Mickey Callaway has to given some credit for the big steps forward for Kluber, some of the young guys and the bullpen.
-Kluber, CC potentially figuring it out. Flashes of brilliance from Salazar and Bauer. Allen, Shaw, Atchiston, Brantley, Gomes, Ramirez, Santana after May, Lonnie before the ASG.

The Bad-
Bourn can't stay healthy. Murph had some clutch hits but overall wasn't very productive. Lonnie after the ASG. Tomlin, McAllister.

The Ugly-
Kipnis following his All Star campaign with a total dud of a season. Cabrera and Masterson being so bad they were shipped out of town. Swisher. It doesn't make the front office want to take chances on the free agent market when the guys they take a chance on don't come anywhere near their past production. The defense. Cost us multiple games.

^^^good analysis.

I'll add...Ryan Raburn was a HUGE disappointment...almost a non factor.

I'll disagree about Tomlin and McCallister. Tomlin is a servicable #5/spot starter and long man. His failure this year was when he was put into situations that he shouldn't have been in. McCallister struggled, but brought it home down the stretch out of the pen busting out 97 MPH fastballs in shorter stints of work. The jury is still out on him.

They should find a place for Kipnis in the outfield.

I agree about Tomlin. He is who he is. But, I was hoping for a big step forward from McAllister before the season. I thought it was going to be between him and Kluber for who would be the #2 on this staff being Masterson. In that sense, I put him in the bad category. If he finds a spot in the pen as a lights out back end bullpen guy, you can never have too many of those.
