I just saw that the mayor of Columbus (a confirmed Democrat) led a contingency to DC to lobby for the 2016 Republican National Convention to come to Columbus. This is one of those "HOW FKG STUPID IS THIS!?!" things. No fkn way the Repubs are gonna award this economic windfall to a city with a Democratic administration. You can be sure a trip like that with a dozen or so delegates easily costs $100k - why do we allow morons to do this shit to us?

Besides, why wouldn't the GOP want to host the convention in the largest city of THE key swing state?

Lol...the last one was in Tampa, which has a Democratic mayor. More important is the party of the Governor.

The city government might be democratic but then again most big cities in the USA are democratic because they have a very large minority population. Can't blame the democratic mayor for trying to do this . The GOP will have a convention in a battleground state and Ohio has been a battle ground state the last several elections.

I heard estimates that it would cost the city 55 million but bring in over 200 million. If it brings 200 million dollars to the city I'm all for it.

One of the best ways for the city to make money is hosting conventions. Do you know how many cities have to to lure the Arnold from Columbus. Money from conventions and expos like the Arnold are an important part of Columbus. For the Arnold hotel rooms are sold out everywhere within 30 minutes of downtown I'm sure the RNC would do the same.

Same thing with the Quarter Horse Congress. Although with that it brings in $180 million per year in revenue and the govt is dragging It's feet to give them the few upgrades they want at the fairgrounds because it isn't an urban type event. The city is going to lose it to Tulsa or Fort Worth and the govt here is going to look like morons

I have heard it's actually a front runner. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it's held in Columbus. Why not hold it in a swing state, a state that without a republican has never won the presidency. With the new hotels downtown they have more then enough high quality hotel rooms. I would guess that an event like the RNC would bring some pretty hot women to the area as well.

Columbus probably makes the most sense of any city in the country.

Ohio has 3 of the final 8 cities. Columbus, Cincinnati, and Cleveland are all finalist.

Pretty good odds it will be in this state.

If you knew anything about anything, you would know that most major urban areas lean democratic.

$100k is also a small investment for the potential to bring millions in economic incentive to the city.

It costs money to get nice things to come to a city. Sometimes it doesn't work out but that doesn't mean you stop trying.

I'd say Columbus has a decent shot at it, the GOP probably wants to win Ohio really badly and putting their convention in the most important city in Ohio isn't a bad way to try to sway some people.

Steubenville has as much chance of landing a National Convention as any of these other three. Delegates aren't clamoring to go to Ohio.
