Why are they playing the semi-final playoff games on New Years Eve next year, rather than New Years Day? That does not seem right?

Most likely because the Rose Bowl isn't a semi-final game next year. And they want to keep that as a New Year's day bowl.wghfan;1702929 wrote:Why are they playing the semi-final playoff games on New Years Eve next year, rather than New Years Day? That does not seem right?

If that is the reason.. fine, but they can still play the semi-final games in other time slots. For example we know the Rose Bowl is 5:00, they could still play one semi at 1:00, and the other at 8:30sherm03;1702945 wrote:Most likely because the Rose Bowl isn't a semi-final game next year. It is the reason. The Rose Bowl is contracted to play the same time as always, and the sugar bowl is the late game on NYD.wghfan;1702955 wrote:If that is the reason.. fine, but they can still play the semi-final games in other time slots. ESPN is trying to get them to change it to the 2nd, on that saturday, for ratings. I think they should listen and change it. The fans of the teams will watch, but to make it an epic viewership they need many of the less serious people to tune in, and on NYE just too many people do other things.

I agree, Jan. 2 would be the better option. The fact that the NFL playoffs would not start until the next weekend, that would leave that day open. New Years Eve, is just not the right day, and night to have those important games.thavoice;1702959 wrote:It is the reason. and CFB turned down ESPN in moving the games which I think is a bad idea. No way they would have beaten this year's ratings though, with it being the first, and OSU/Alabama matchup and the other which had the west coast vs teh east....just open for everyone to really be interested.wghfan;1702969 wrote:I agree, Jan. 2 would be the better option. I will still watch no matter what, but so many people have stuff going on that it just wont get as many people watching,.

With New Years Eve still being a working day for a lot of people, and then New Years Eve plans for people and so forth, does not make a lot of sense. So now you have the 2 games that mean something on New Years Eve. Then you have the also ran games on New Years Day. sorry but it should be the other way around.thavoice;1702972 wrote:and CFB turned down ESPN in moving the games which I think is a bad idea. Agreed. ALmost seems like CFB set the schedule, and are now just being too stubborn to go with ESPN request and think they may look weak if they change it.wghfan;1702980 wrote:With New Years Eve still being a working day for a lot of people, and then New Years Eve plans for people and so forth, does not make a lot of sense.
