When I heard that about Powell and Bell, it was said it was a very fluid situation.

I've been calling for this (ie Powell starting) ever since Christian Bryant went down.

why are OSUs ticket allotment sales so horrible? only 44% sold.

Because the school tickets are more expensive than the secondary market

Funny you just mentioned this because I was just about to ask if there is anyone else who is as "ho hum" about this game as me.

Sure I'd like Ohio State to win and I'll definitely watch, but for whatever reason it won't bother me if the Buckeyes lose this game.

I suppose I'm still stunned and pissed that Ohio State - after taking a beating in the sports media all season about being overrated - had a golden opportunity to prove the skeptics wrong but blew it. I'm kind of thinking let's just get this season in the books and see which team pisses on Ohio State's 2014 parade.

Similar feelings could be why these tickets aren't selling...just a guess.

Disappointment of not getting to the NC in Pasadena? Rather have a party and watch in on HDTV at home? Miami sucks? To be honest, I have no idea.

Apparently OSU has been one of the major players in fighting the allotment system for quite a while. Essentially if you accept a bowl bid, the bowl MAKES the school buy x number of tickets at a certain price. For a normal game like the Orange bowl, the markup between the bowl and the school can be upwards of 20%.

I'm sure that's a factor but Ohio State fans generally travel well and shell out the dough. I still think it's because the Orange Bowl is a let down THIS year and nobody cares. If Ohio State had lost earlier in the season and then battled back to earn a BCS bid to the Orange Bowl, ticket sales would be brisk.

The Orange Bowl will be overwhelmingly Scarlet. At the risk of saying LJ is right, he is. Overall ticket purchases by tOSU fans are just fine, they just aren't going through the school.

I dont think it's an orange bowl letdown at all. OSU hasn't been to the orange bowl on 36 years. The school tickets are $120 ea and the tickets are going for $50 on stubhub. Where would you buy the tickets?

and why are they cheaper on the secondary market? Because there isn't much demand. I agree with Believer. Obviously Clemson plays a part in the secondary market as well, but I'd figure they are pretty excited about a BCS bowl game and chance chance to take down OSU.

Tickets for the Rose Bowl are going for $300 and up. Up to $1000 for the NC. Would Buckeye fans have purchased all of their allotted tickets by now for those 2 games if Ohio State had earned a bid to either one of those games? Probably.

Why are they cheaper? Because the allotment system puts a 20% markup on school tickets

Stanford only sold their allotment because MSU fans cheated. They probably would have returned some tickets if MSU fans had not done that.
NCG tickets are not a good comparison because that game gets a lot of purchases from corporations and so on. A lot like the Super Bowl.

Not sure the point people are trying to make. At the end of the day, tOSU fans will have bought as many tickets for THIS game as the fan base for any other school the bowl could have selected.

The secondary market tickets are cheaper because there isn't much demand. They mark the allotment up..cool. Secondary market tickets are basically always higher, especially for programs with fan bases like OSU. I paid 300+ for my mid level corner endzone seat to the rose bowl in 2010. Was the allotment price 400? 450?

You have a weak argument and you know it. It's simple economics. Or are OSU fans smarter than all of the other schools who sold much more of their allotment?

I don't have a point really, just found it very odd that a program like OSU has sold a bad % of their allotment. Programs who have sold more include, but aren't limited to- Vanderbilt, Rutgers, Iowa, Louisville, Baylor, Ole Miss, Bowling Green, Utah St.

I suppose, but with all of the factors that affect the percentage, it really doesn't measure much of anything.
