Reason being he violated the policy that is not in place for the upcoming season. Once Sunday hits though, the old policy is essentially in stone for offseason violators...
but it was the policy in place when he tested positive.

But, the policy was for this upcoming season. They will fight to have the outcome overturned because he failed a test for something that is not in place anynore for a season which hasn't started.

This is policy would replace the other one, and since he tested positive in the offseason, his results would be retested via this policy.

I mean, if we are honest, this is a longshot. But on the surface, they have an argument.

So, if you went to jail for smoking weed and two weeks later the country legalizes it, you think you should stay for your remainder of time in jail?

Did Colorado let those who are in jail/prison out when they legalized it?

Just as I think it would be shitty to now suspend Rice for more games now that the rule is changed I think it would be wrong to let those suspended for Marijuana to come back early.
Same with Welker. Word is ampthetmines are most likely going to be taken off the PED list and put into recreational drug category which would just put him in a program and not suspended (assuming he hasnt popped hot before)....and he should still be suspended because at the time he broke the rule...that was the punishment.

I don't know, but they definitely should if they haven't. The government is even less rational than the NFL though.

Your missing the point though. What they tested for was the policy FOR THIS UPCOMING SEASON. If that is reworked, the old one basically never existed.

It would be different if they were trying to change it going forward (ie startingn after the Super Bowl for 2015. But they are trying for this year). It all depends on how quickly the deal is done. If it's by Sunday, Gordon has a shot, if not, he is probably out since it won't circumvent the current policy and will just replace it in 2015.

The NFL and the NFL player's union are close to an agreement that would modify the sport’s drug policies and potentially could result in a reduced or overturned suspension for Gordon, the Washington Post reports. "If we get a deal done that covers players in this league year, I don't like that we punish players under a deal active in the old league year," NFL players union director DeMaurice Smith told 106.7 The Fan in Washington, DC, which was relayed by NFL.com's Albert Breer.

Ill agree with you on that one.

Guess we will see who suits up this weekend for the browns. If Gordon goes get to play then I see a Manzell to Gordon TD pass to win the game...

Highly doubt Gordon plays week 1 regardless of reinstatement or not.

Agreed. I doubt he plays. The key here is getting the deal done so he can play in week 2/3/4/whatever.

Not a complete surprise but Manziel could be used in some packages on Sunday. Let the fapping by two particular posters begin....

Tomlim talked about how they were preparing for him to play in saying that 'they didnt draft him in the first round to watch from the sideline'.

I think that Tomlin's a cheating asshole but came away impressed with how prepared he was during his press conference regarding the Browns. Knew every players name on defense and even threw out Kitchen's name.

Not surprising that he has that opinion. He has won a Super Bowl and clearly gets it. Mike Pettine on the other hand knows better, which is why Johnny will ride the pine all year because "it's Hoyer's team".

I'm not buying that. I don't expect to see Manziel in the game unless Hoyer gets injured or he's so bad he needs to be yanked.

Johnny Football had a cool response to Merril Hoge's juvenile punk rant. Hey Merill. you didn't exactly dominate the NFL yourself. This is the same guy that says Jadaveon Clowney is an atrocious football player.

I cant think of a worse NFL guy off the top of my head. Jaws is pretty awful too.

So someone can only criticize players equal or worse than themselves? If you're not a hypocrite, that means you'll be leaving the site. Note: being a hypocrite is exactly the same as being a liar so you're covered.

I hate the notion that someone can't be a great evaluator or analyst or whatever because they personally sucked at what they are covering. It's an asinine concept.

That said, Hoge continues to be proven wrong and look like an idiot. Not always, but more than most of the national NFL guys.

The same reason I stick to MLB Network because they blow ESPNs Baseball Tonight out of the water is why I go with NFL Network or Golf Channel, or TNT for NBA, etc.

Here's my take on the news that Gordon will not sue for a temporary injunction despite him having a super legal team: they know that Gordon's suspension will be reduced in a timely enough manner, and I wouldn't doubt that belief stems from conversations between them and the NFL.
