I agree with this. Chicaco and NY pizza aren't worth all the hoopla. The best pizza I've ever had is located in Columbus, OH; Hound Dogs.Automatik;1539592 wrote:I'll even go as far to say that NYC pizza is overrated. Great? Yes, but not worth the hoopla.

I wouldnt be suprised or disappointed if he didnt get in. Just saying that if you are top 10 in any said major category one cannot say they DONT belong in. Yards, TD's, receptions, TD passes, etc....if you are top ten then I am not sure one can say that person SHOULDNT be in, but if HW doesnt get it I wouldnt think it was a travesty.like_that;1539576 wrote:LOL, no ward does not have to be inducted. I'd say that beyond pure numbers, a HOFer should be one of the 2-3 best at his position for at least some portion of his career.thavoice;1539607 wrote:I wouldnt be suprised or disappointed if he didnt get in. Hound Dogs is the shit! When my best friend lived in C-Bus, I got that reasonably often. Been a while since I've had it, though.sleeper;1539599 wrote:I agree with this. Chicaco and NY pizza aren't worth all the hoopla. The best pizza I've ever had is located in Columbus, OH; Hound Dogs.

I havent ever broken it down before but how many long term guys are in the HOF who werent top 2-3 at their spot at some point? I am not sure.

The biggest example is probably Lynn Swann. He was from a different era and his stats record is incredibly light for a HOF'er - but it was a different era and the guy was a great ambassador for the league and was know for his "gracefulness" on the field - would almost be laughed at today however if nominated for HOF-worthiness.

Joe Namath & Terry Bradshaw are also both examples of that. Pretty pedestrian career numbers but they had rings so they're in.

True, and a different time where teams ran, ran, and ran it some more. They threw less, with not as as many receivers out in patterns, but they were more downfield than today's passing attack that at times is an extension of the running game. That is why you compare like era's together.BR1986FB;1539634 wrote:Joe Namath & Terry Bradshaw are also both examples of that. Pretty pedestrian career numbers but they had rings so they're in.
Every once in awhile a guy puts up numbers that are generations ahead of his time, like Babe Ruth. He out homered complete TEAMS a couple of times.

and with Ruth he did it eating hot dogs and drinking beer every day. For a while I thought Pujols might be that special, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

Ruth wouldn't even be a triple A player in today's era.Manhattan Buckeye;1539642 wrote:and with Ruth he did it eating hot dogs and drinking beer every day. For a while I thought Pujols might be that special, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

Again, you know nothing. Can't assume anything with today's modern science, nutrition, etc.sleeper;1539644 wrote:Ruth wouldn't even be a triple A player in today's era.

This goes back to the Megatron/Deion Sanders thread. You can't say "Peyton Manning would've thrown for 7000 yards back in 1986 while Jim Brown would be lucky to rush for 200 yards in a season in today's game." Way too many variables.

I think Jim Brown would be an all-star in any era - like Wilt, Bill Russell, Jordan, Magic, Bench, Sayers, etc. It is what makes them special. I do find it amusing when I look at my 80's era baseball cards and see the types of guys that actually made it to the league:
like John Lowenstein, really? Or Mario Mendoza?

Look at MLB MVP's in the 80's. For the most part their stats look pedestrian nowadays even after the steriod era is wearing off.

Actually you can assume this. Players in the past didn't have today's modern science, nutrition, etc and therefore would not be as good as the players today.BR1986FB;1539650 wrote:Again, you know nothing. Can't assume anything with today's modern science, nutrition, etc.
This is like saying "Well the cell phones from the 90's would be just as good as today if they had a touch screen, a camera, and LTE". LOL

Really is no proof of this either. We didn't have drug testing back in his days and maybe he was one of the few that had his hands on a steroid.Manhattan Buckeye;1539651 wrote:I agree but the dude did it naturally. He gets credit for that.

Peyton Manning is the best QB ever. Jim Brown? Wouldn't even start in the CFL.BR1986FB;1539655 wrote:This goes back to the Megatron/Deion Sanders thread. Can't be assumed. Then Lebron, etc can't take their supplements, yoga/weigh trained bodies, etc back in time.sleeper;1539669 wrote:Actually you can assume this. Players in the past didn't have today's modern science, nutrition, etc and therefore would not be as good as the players today.

Sorry. They ran the ball way too much back in the 80's. Numbers wouldn't even be close.sleeper;1539672 wrote:Peyton Manning is the best QB ever. Jim Brown? Wouldn't even start in the CFL.
