Not trying to be a jerk here, but you do realize that Alex Smith is like 27-5 in his last 32 starts. Yeah, most of them were in SF with a pretty good team, but 8 are with a team that was 2-14 last year.

Yeah, some of what you all are saying is true, but this isnt your grandpa's NFL where you line it up and run most of the time and the QB just has to make a few plays here and there.

I dont think the browns franchise, or fans, really should sweep his 27-5 record under the rug when ya clearly didnt have a legit QB on your roster. It is like a 16 yr old kid balking at getting a Honda Accord from his parents for his 16th birthday instead of a mustang. Yeah, one is much sexier, but the other will do a great job for ya.

So go ahead and discuss, this is the matchup I always hopes in a 0-0 tie.

You DO realize that both the Chiefs & Niners had very good running games and shutdown defenses, neither of which Cleveland has, correct? The Browns D is decent but they aren't playing at the level of the Chiefs or what the Niners were when Smith was there.

We don't necessarily need a QB like a Manning, Brees, etc who can take the team on their back and win games but they also don't need a predictable game manager who can't run a vertical offense.

I also want to point out the fact that the Chiefs went 2-14 with Romeo Crennel, one of the bums that helped us remain in our stagnant state. They're now 8-0 with Andy Reid, who the Eagles were ridiculous for getting rid of.

You also say that this isn't our grandpa's NFL where team line it up and run, but that's what the Chiefs do with Smith. They run a ton. When they don't, 90% of their passes are an extension of the run game with screens to Charles and McCluster, and short crossing patterns to tight ends and Donnie Avery. Smith is a game manager, period. He's very good at it though. He doesn't make mistakes, and he simply enables his team to make methodical drives, taking care of the football, and allows his defense to win the turnover battle. That's proven to be a successful strategy in the NFL, but saying that he would be perfect for our team (a vertically-based offense) is absurd.

I think Alex Smith could've done exactly what Hoyer did in this offense. Get out on the edge, and complete the quick hitters. Everyone loved Hoyer, and his longest pass was 47 yards. Mix in Smith's ability to run, and this team probably only has a couple losses at this point.

They very well could. Look at Alex smith's history. And yes I know he's always had really good players surrounding him and a good defense. But so do the browns.

Well, they also very well could be 7-1 or 6-2 had Hoyer started the whole year. They blew halftime leads in those first two games and with ANY offense, they easily beat the Rats. The only sure loss would've been Green Bay. Hoyer can probably do just as good, or better, than Smith.

I have already stated that I would take most starting NFL quarterbacks in the league and we would compete. Alex Smith is on that list. With that being said, I would't haven given up 1 2nd round pick for him let alone 2. The chiefs gave a 2nd rounder, and if they go better than 8-8 this season (looks like they have that in the bag), they also will be giving up their 2014 2nd round pick.

Yeah I didn't really take into account the 2nd rounder it would take to get him. But still, we're 6-3 right now with Alex Smith. I think all of us would give up a 2nd round pick to be 6-3 right now.

He is going to cost them two second round picks. I wouldn't do that just to barely scrape in the playoffs at 9-7/10-6 for one year. You're missing out on the josh Gordon's and TJ wards of the draft if you give up your second round pick.

Sure I would be happy during the season if we made the playoffs, but if we went back to square one of not building on our success (i.e. 2003 and 2007 flash in the pan seasons), I would be pretty upset, and would be pissed we didn't have the 2nd round picks. Chiefs will have a much tougher schedule next season, I don't think Smith leads them to this type of performance again. I wouldn't go as far as saying the chiefs are winning in spite of him, but they def aren't winning because of him. The chiefs have the best defense in the league right now, and they have a great running game. Smith is doing a great job not making mistakes (i.e. taking idiotic sacks, fumbles, or ints). Why would we give up 2 2nd round picks for that, when we could have probably signed another QB who would have given us that? Hell, you talk about a 6-3 record with Smith, we all can argue we would probably have a 6-3 record with hoyer starting all year, maybe even still a winning record with Campbell. There have been numerous ESPN analysts who have said the Browns have a championship caliber defense, unfortunately they don't have the QB play right now. Just goes to show what decent QB play can do for a team with a great defense an actual talent on the offensive side of the ball. Weeden just was/is that bad.

The Broncos are the only team in the AFC better than they are at this time.

Good to hear a fan not want to go overboard to JUST make the playoffs. The goal (be it short-term or long-term) is always to win it all. 3 seasons of going good enough to make the playoffs but get ousted in the first game doesn't satisfy any fan. No way does any Bengals or Reds fan going to be happy with that. Scraping in 1 year is exciting....but following years flat out expect more.

The Browns or the Cavs making the playoffs would be exciting....but the next level will/should be immediately expected.

You can still draft a QB to groom behind smith. Jesus I don't want Alex smith for the next 6 years.

And yes I do believe the chiefs can win a playoff game.
