Cowher to coach in 2010?

If he wants to coach, bring him to Cleveland...although I'd like to give Manweiner one more year, I'd love to see Bill in Cleveland

The only trouble with Cowher in Cleveland would be that him and Holmgren would have to coexist. Not sure how that would play out. Holmgren is a West Coast offense guy, and Cowher is definitely not.

Why do people think Cowher such a great coach. With the talent he had in Pittsburgh all those years, it took him 14yrs to win a Super Bowl.

Alot of talk about him ending up with the Buccaneers.

Which is actually kind of funny. Remember last season Gruden survived the initial wave of firings (during this time Morris was elevated to DC), other teams started sniffing around Raheem Morris and the Bucs didn't want to lose him. So, what do they do? They fire Jon Gruden and replace him with a guy who had never "actually" been a coordinator in the league. Once Morris took over he hired Jeff Jagodzinski (sp?) as his OC and Jim Bates as his DC. By week 6 or 7, both had been fired by Morris. During the course of the season Morris started 3 different QBs.

My guess after all that is that TB realizes they made a huge mistake and fire Morris

Tampa Bay really screwed up their situation, and are obviously much worse than they should have been. There were rumors the Cowher might coach for the Panthers, but ESPN reported that John Fox's job was safe now that they are winning again.

If the Cowboys don't at least get to the NFC Championship game I got to think Wade Philips will get the can. I really don't see this Cowboy squad going that far in the playoffs. Look for Jerry Jones to throw some serious cash Cowher's way in effort to court him. The lure of coaching America's Team may bring the Chin back into the league.

No, I think he is overrated. I really don't have any stats or credible reports backing up my opinion. I just don't think he is a particulary good head coach. Of course, I am part of the 'Keep Mangini' bandwagon, so I really wouldn't want to welcome any new coach in next season...

What Cower accomplished in Pittsburgh was nothing short of amazing! He lost starting players just about every year to free agency and still won on a consistent basis. He also never had a great QB until they drafted Big Ben.........Neil O'Donell, Kordell Stewart and Tommy Maddox were good but not great. I agree, he should have won more AFC titles and maybe another Super Bowl (or two) than he did but nothing is a guarantee in the NFL, ask Dan Marino about getting back to the Super Bowl.

Also, Cowher will never coach in Cleveland and I highly doubt he would go to the Cowboys with a medling owner like Jerry Jones. If he comes back, it will most probably be on the east coast, so he can remain as close as possible to his Carolina home.

You are forgetting all of the top notch players he had year in and year out that stayed with Pittsburgh. He had many great players on both sides of the ball every year. How many years was it he had everything lined up for him. Playoffs at home. For years he couldn't win the big one. So after 14 yrs of coaching he wins 1 Super Bowl and now he's a coaching legend? Come on.

And he lost MANY of those great players every year, some of whom weren't even drafted yet they flourished under Cowher. When those players left for greener pastures, they failed miserably and Cowher would replace with no problem, never skipping a beat.

I agree that he should have won more titles but that one Super bowl victory trumps all the losses, what about John Elway? Cowher will be in the HOF.

He might have had another Super Bowl appearance if it hadn't been for Belicheat. I remember after that one AFC Championship game in Pittsburgh, after the game they interviewed Hines Ward and he said "Man, it was like they knew what we were going to do"...

In the HOF for winning 1 Super Bowl ? There are several NFL coaches over the years with similar credentials/records as Cowher and they aren't considered HOF material. Why him? And don't compare an NFL head coach to QB's(Elway and Marino) 2 different jobs and positions.

Cowher will ne in the HOF, there's no denying it. His body of work is extraordinary and yes, that one Super Bowl win seals the deal for him. As for former players and the Super Bowl, there's plenty of coaches who have been there and lost and never got there again.

Please list the coaches with similar credentials to Cowher. I bet there may be a handfull.
