Stat of the game... 45, 23. OSU carried the ball nearly twice as many times as it ran it. The final count was almost exactly 2-to-1.

So you were pleased with Shazier's play yesterday? Considering the expectations of leadership and production on him, yesterday was a disappointing sub-par performance. If he is going to be remembered along with the great LBs of the past (and many of you have him in that group already) average days just don't cut it. I'm expecting better and ill call him on it when he doesnt earn it. I'm sure Ryan himself was not happy about yesterday and will make up for it.

^^^He had a good, not great, day. These young, inexperienced guys need to learn to play with Shazier, and visa versa. They need to learn their responsibilities, as one missed assignment has a domino effect on any given play. Am I pleased? They won, so yeah, I'm good.

There is a domino effect of all those starters in the defensive backfield being out. No Barnett in run support and not being able to have Roby on an island really disrupted the continuity of the defense.

I'd like to further my point of how different the d will look with Roby and Barnett back. The top 4 tacklers last year were, in order, Shazier, Bryant, Roby, Barnett. Only 1 of those guys played a full game.

Good points LJ. A less than lackluster first game isn't always a bad thing either, especially with young players. Everyone of these guys were HS superstars not too long ago and most could get by on just their size and speed. A tester game shows them that now they must also learn technique and strategic team play because the other teams all have former superstars too.

I think the 2nd game of the season really tells the story of a team. The first game you're kinda feeling your way, especially with all the new kids, plus we'll have Roby, Barnett, and Smith back next week. It's obvious Urban doesn't really trust the young kids on offense yet, which is kinda disappointing, because I was looking forward to seeing them play.
