Its my opinion. Didnt you start a thread about going back to school after 30 to get at least a certificate in horticulture? I assumed you started the thread expecting responses.

Yes, your response was perfectly fine. Am I not allowed to respond with my opinion/defense in return?

Consider the source Justin. I'd just ignore if I were you. I think its great you're going back to school regardless of what it's for. I've been debatying going back for some more intense SQL certification. Or perhaps an online programming class so I can move up faster in my company. I have SQL experience, but not a certification.

Not spending all day on the OC at work would probably help you move up faster in the company, too.

You have all the answers. No wonder you're such a popular/respected poster on the OC.

Thanks. My life value is determined by how much of a popular/respected poster I am on the OC.

I see nothing wrong with it.

I'm 28 and I hope to go back for my masters...on someone else's dime hopefully. If I'm 30+ when this happens, no fucks will be given.

Yeah..imagine many of them were from farming families where the kid worked on the family farm for many moons before taking over or branching out on his own.

No just figure it out. Pick6 already said the class was worthless (esp a basically free one) bc historically people know how to do it.

Justin probably needs the class since he is a city slicker now who lives in the ghetto.

If everyone posted like you do just to get "likes" this would be a sorry effin place. Takes balls to step out on the unpopular side and rattle some cages.

I see it this way. But, any education is a good education too. Nothing wrong with educating oneself.
justincredible;1481350 wrote:Really? It seems like the perfect thing to learn about when my long term goal is to become more self sustainable, i.e. gardening like a mother ****er. Especially when I only have to pay the taxes on the education.
I'd look to see if the Horticulture certificate actually teaches you to be self-sustainable. I would venture to say that it doesn't. Most things in college don't do that anymore, it seems...unfortunately.

I just wrapped up my schooling. I hope I'm done. I'll be 28 in a couple weeks. Spent 4.5 years in undergrad (with a transfer in there). Spent 4 years in grad school, two different stints. I don't want to go back. But, if someone were to pay me to go back and do it...I wouldn't turn it down. But, it'd have to be a full-time salary and schooling paid for. No way I'd pay for it again. Can't complain too much, I got two graduate degrees paid for. I look forward to years and years of not having to sit through lectures and not writing papers and not reading boring books.

My wife started her masters degree at age 30 and, if things go the way we are both hoping, I will be going back for at least a certificate (horticulture) starting next fall. She will hopefully be going back to work at UC this year which would make her degree free (going forward) and I would be able to attend classes and only pay taxes on the value of the education.

I am back in school after 30. I went to ou right out of college but I had no desire to be there and stopped after 2 quarters. Its much easier this tine around since im motivated. Im going to Hawaii Pacific for Criminal Justice and was accepted into Penn States wolrd campus online for Turf Management.

Good luck!

Here is the curriculum for the certificate I would likely go for. Seems to be pretty relevant to my future plans.

Gonna move south? My brother got his degree in landscape design at Ohio State. I have been trying to get him to move south where the better jobs are but his wife is having none of it.

From the netflix thread:
Didnt realize my comment would offend you so much. My apologies. I wonder how many homesteaders today went to school for it.
This is irrelevant. I am not going to school for homesteading. I am (potentially) going to school to learn as much as I can about horticulture. Something that interests me. Something that will potentially help me out in the future. What does past/current homesteaders education choices have to do with me?
