I still believe that Urban Meyer will show up in Ohio before he would show up in South Bend. In actuality, I don't think he'll ever go to either school, but Ohio State would be first. If he coaches again, I would expect it to be in the Pros. It's really the only challenge left for him and he does have a bit of an ego, like all men do.

Spurrier will not be back.
Mullen, Stoops, Gruden, Patterson, Peterson, Whittingham have already been mentioned.
I've got one helluva headache this evening.

The logical names i think that will end up being floated, and there are only 2, are Dan Mullen and Kyle Whittingham. Mullen just took the job @ Mississippi State and I believe has a 5 year contract, so I'm not so sure I see that happening, and Whittingham has stated he loves being at the Utah.

Beyond those two, I'm not sure who you go after.

Contracts don't mean anything in college football. Most especially at Florida, if they want somebody a little bit of money (i.e. a buyout) is not going to stop them

Mike Shanahan is also on the long list. So many names...Meyer's press conf. is at 4:30 Sunday in New Orleans...Foley I'm sure has already made a short list with Meyer, hopefully we will know exactly who in a few days.

I know contracts don't mean anything but the guy just completed his first season and is trying to rebuild a program and start a new winning tradition. I just don't see Mullen willing to give that up to go back to Gainesville

Mississippi St.... or Florida.... seems like an easy decision to me. Not saying he'll get it or anything, just that you'd have to be naive to think that Mullen wouldn't jump at that opportunity

dont think June Jones will be up for this one.

You and I both see Mississippi State and Florida, and it seems like a no brainer. But maybe he wants to stay and build something special at Mississippi State. The timing may just not be right for him

How about Nick Saban?

He can win a BCS Championship at Bama this year, then leave for UF. He would then have an opportunity to win BCS Titles at 3 different schools, not to mention 3 different schools from the SEC. He seems to jump from job-to-job rather frequently, so it's not out of the realm of possibility he could be interested in becoming HC at Florida.

Strong has signed a term sheet, but not the formal contract. That might be interesting since he is with Florida until the bowl game.
Also Houston's Sumlin on the list. Sumlin, Patterson, or Strong ?

from the Gainesville Sun...

After the Gators lost to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game on Dec. 5, Meyer checked himself into Shands early that next morning for what Florida officials said were dehydration issues. But Meyer admitted to The Sun he had also experienced chest pains.

"I have to take better care of myself," Meyer told The Sun in a Dec. 7 interview.

"I've lost a lot of weight this season," Meyer said. "I just have to take better care of myself. It's been a tough season. A great season, but a tough season."

You never know about Saban. But he's making a shitload already at Bama.

I think Strong signs the contract at Louisville and takes that job.

Really a bad time for all this to happen.
Not much time to find a replacement with the height of recruiting in process.

One of the Bowden Brothers?

Won't be one of the Bowden brothers.

They'll lose a few recruits but I don't think it hurts them terribly in the long run. I don't see Florida commits running to Jimbo Fisher and Randy Shannon

Yeah Jimbo Fisher at FSU still boggles my mind. What on earth did/do they see in him?

he was the O-Coordinator for Saban when he was @ LSU.... had some decent offenses during his time there... but when he made that move it didn't make much sense to me at the time either

IF Saban would jump again within conference, he would be done credibility wise. That wont happen. What recruit could believe him?

You know, it wouldn't be a bad move for Saban, but I really think Saban is satisfied at Alabama. I mean, he's making a very hefty amount of money, and gets to recruit in Bama with an Auburn team that's in a skid.

Not to mention, I don't think Saban wants to be the whore coach of the SEC. :D

Saban is making a crap load of money, plus he's got a ton of other perks(huge house, country club membership, vehicle usage, university's private jet) at his disposal....

Espn reporting Meyer will assume duties within the athletic dept. Wouldn't be surpised to see him back in the near future.

I'm sure that when he wants the job back, he'll have it handed to him.

He won't stay away for too long.

I agree, unless the new coach is having success. Then it all gets very awkward.

If Urban stays in the athletic department as is being reported, how attractive do you think that makes the head coaching job?

Were I a college coach, I'd be very leery of taking a job where the very successful coach who preceded me has an office right down the hall.

It will be interesting to see how this affects the search for his replacement.
