I said Even Turner was a terrible draft pick before he was even picked. It only got worse (you all know the story, I won't bore you) when Philly picked him #2 over other players.

I mean, very rarely is a top 5 pick going to completely bomb out and be out of the league, but there's also a point where you have to realize he's never going to reach that elite level.

I mean O.J. Mayo is a bust, but that's because he's been a household name (especially in Ohio) for a decade and unless he became a consistent All Star, he was going to have that rep. It doesn't help that his personality, mannerisms on the court and his actual game don't leave much to be desired either. That, and that the fact that he had the issues at North College Hill and was part of a probation punishment at USC never put him in the "I really root for that guy" category.

Then again, O.J. Mayo will probably make 100 million dollars in 12-15 years...and for a lot of guys, that's the sole reason they even play pro ball. Not everyone absolutely lives and dies for their sport. To some, it's just what they are best at and where their bread is buttered.

Turner had a decent year last year, 13,6 and 4. The offense didn't run through him either it ran through Jrue Holliday. He may never be an elite player but he is going to be a very good player for a long time.

Turner is a guy that will stay in the league for a while and may try to join a contender as a decent roll player late in the second half of his career to win a ring. It's apparent that he won't ever be the man for a team at this point. But earning millions over a long career in the NBA isn't really that bad. Not everyone can be an all-star or a champion.

Which is why I said what I did about McLemore. I mean, there aren't very many guys taken in the top 5, who barring injuries (Jay Williams, Shaun Livingston, Greg Oden, etc...) that don't even make it.

The question becomes...how do you rate a pick if that guy doesn't ever get past just being "good." It's the same thing that might happen with Michael Gilchrist. He will have to become that defensive lockdown player and a key cog in leading a team who is a contender if his numbers never hit an elite, elite level. He will always rebound and get steals, but I don't ever see him averaging more than 15-18 PPG, and for a SF taken in the top 3, that's not all that successful.

Back on JJ huddle in 2007 I said I thought Howard was a piece of shit and got flamed into oblivion. Even if I get no props for being right, I revel in it. I like macklemore. I just don't think he will pan out (into a superstar).

Agree. I just don't see macklemore progressing. He played his best ball in January-February. He might be a superstar, I'll eat crow, but I think he's a Jason terry at best player.

I can't get into his style at all. His beats aren't that bad but his flow and lyrics are terrible IMO.

Disagree. You don't draft guys with holes who won't play a game until they are 22. That isn't what the NBA is about. There are exceptions, but not many.

Even if you take an off-the-wall foreign guy or an 18 or 19-year old, your odds of "boom" are much higher with a guy like that than a college Junior.

This is especially true for a team who isn't going to contend anytime soon.

How are these deals finalized? It's on twitter in multiple areas and it's all but a done deal and supposed to be done late last night or today....but Mullens was in town working out at the high school just a couple hours ago? Do they do a verbal commitment and then sign off on it later or send it via fax or mail?

Just wondering.
