Lol good point. I didn't do too much damage luckily. We walked a ton every day and the food was much healthier and lighter than what you can get in the States if you eat out every day.

A small victory in a world (gym memberships) where it doesn't happen often...

I have a "core" membership. Meaning I pay $40 a month to go to a single NYSC location. "Passport" members can go anywhere for around $70-80 a month, it varies.

I recently moved and it's a bit of a bitch to get to my location now, so I attempted to "try out" another one near my office. I just asked for a day pass and said I would possibly switch to this location if I liked it. It turns out, NYSC has dropped all of their rates and converted all core members to passport, no charge, no increase. They didn't even notify members of this, you just have to discover on your own. I'm now locked in at any location for $40 for the next 4 months. That is unheard of in a place where gym membership prices can be outrageous. I'm assuming once my commitment is up I will get hammered for some kind of fee increase, but I'm hoping that doesn't happen.

Even at $40, that's pretty cheap. I volunteered at the local JCC back on the east coast 5 yrs ago or so and our membership costs were like $75 a month. I think that was fairly typical for the area. Here on the west coast they're even higher. Want to go to a climbing gym? Better be ready to fork out close to $200 a month.

Back home in Ohio? $19.99 a month at the gym by my mom's house.

I work out at the AFB gym where I work. It's free and it's 100x better than any gym I have paid membership for.

Part of me envies a nice home gym, then the other part enjoys the process of having to go to the gym and also the attractive females.

This I agree with but I prefer working out alone.

Same, I hate the fucking gym. I have free weights at home that I do exercises with coupled with push up/pull up bar(s).

I hated all of the "bros" talking/taking their good old time between sets and the pigs sweating up benches and not wiping them off.

Kind of reminds me of a story....when I was a freshmen or sophomore in college, the NFL was on strike. B-W had a new facility so some of the Browns players would come over and lift. Dan Fike and Clay Matthews were beasts in the weight room with Fike being the "alpha" when it came to hoisting weight. Funniest thing I saw was Gary Danielson trying to do barbell curls with an Olympic bar and 2.5 lb plates on each side. Dude was wearing electric blue spandex pants with Olivia Newton John "Let's Get Physical" leg warmers on his calves (smh sometimes at the 80's).

I'm off track as the true "story" is that Ernest Byner thought he owned the weight room. Bastard would do a set of bench with 225 then disappear for a half hour. He was out in the lobby hitting on all of the college girls. We finally got wise to him and basically gave him the old "fuck you Ernest" and stripped the weights off the bench and started using it. He'd come back in and you could tell he was visibly pissed.

Same here. But doing HIIT, I find it more convenient to be at home, since the point is to move from exercise to exercise quickly, so I need all my dumbbells and stuff ready at all times and can't be waiting on anyone to be finishing anything.

Besides, I live in a rural area, so from past experience, it's more likely I'll be finding fat dudes pumpin' iron instead of hot chicks at the local gyms. At least that was the case a number of years ago when I joined a local gym for a few months. A total of one hottie, but a few fat guys who were just there to work on their bench max, as opposed to actually having a fitness plan.

I've always lifted alone. I've also slowly turned my garage into a gym with a bench, power rack, kettlebells, dead lift platform, treadmill, various curl/straight bars and dumbbells. It's great to be able to get a workout in, especially in the winter when I can lift shirtless in the winter but also not have to drive to the gym in terrible road conditions.

I would like to have a training partner sometimes though, to really push me and as a permanent spotter.

This is one of the best perks. When I trained at the gym where I live, it was a 20-25 minute drive. That was after an hour and 15 minute commute home from work. More times than not, I'd find a way to talk myself out of not working out. Now, if I'm not feeling it when I get home, I can always go out later.

Dumbbells and mats for HIIT 12 feet from my home office, I can't do it any other way.

That was big for me. One of the things that killed me back when I went to a gym was that I'd do it after work and sometimes I just wanted to sit on the couch and veg out because I'd have a long day. Now, since everything's at home, I can wake up, stretch, work out, have breakfast, shower and head to the office with no problems. If I have to do something really early in the morning, then at least when I get home, I don't have to worry about getting motivated to switch into gym clothes and drive out to another place. I can just relax for a few and then work out when I'm ready.

It just streamlines the experience and makes everything more convenient.

Did everyone quit working out because football is here?

Anyway, what about foam rolling? Lately I've been getting very sore after leg workouts and finally decided to give it a try. I've been doing it nightly just to get in the routine and holy shit, it hurts like hell.

I need to get back to consistently foam rolling and yes it hurts like hell your first time or if you have been off of it for awhile.

I'm down to about 182-185 on a consistent basis. My heaviest was somewhere between 215-220. Feeling great.

I can't get my ass motivated lately. I stopped the diet I was on briefly and just can't get back on the wagon. Although, after 2 months of being off it, I have maintained the 112lbs I lost.

What was your routine like? From my research, it's all over the place. I've just doings legs all over before bed. 20-30 seconds per section. Quads hurt the worst for me by far.

Most of the time I spent is rolling out my IT band. I do it very slowly then roll it out quickly. Probably spend over a minute each side. I do the quads for about the same amount of time and sometimes I do my calves. It really does wonders I am just terrible at committing time to stretching. It's also better to do it after you workout if you can.

I've read IT bands do not stretch and that you should not foam roll them.

112? Damn, that's pretty solid. Maintaining is pretty good as well. What are you down to? What is your goal? Just remember that once you're off your ass, you're off your ass.

Well, speaking from experience I have to roll my IT bands or I can't run/walk after a cardio workout. Couple of years ago I thought I was going to have to knee surgery because my knees hurt so bad after a long walk/run/bike ride. Started rolling my IT bands and I haven't had an issue since.
