That's an exagerration for sure. They have larger dumbbells, and you can obviously do what you want like squat, deadlift, etc. They do not have "free" olympic style lifting areas for deadlift, power clean, etc. Free pizza is real, and one of the dumbest things I have ever seen. The lunkhead thing is an alarm that goes off when people slam weights, and has nothing to do with size.

They have plenty of dumb bells and plate/free weights to lift what you want to lift, even for the big guys.

The two things that are ridiculous there:
1. No scales anywhere, when I asked and they told me it was "because they might discourage someone" I laughed out loud (literally). Yeah, let's take the one thing out that most people will step on at home anyway to measure their progress.
2. The freaking pizza parties on whatever night they have them (I typically work out at lunch, sometimes early AM). Nothing says 'fitness' like chowing down on pizza while you 'work out'.
Agreed. I was a member for over 2 years and got jacked at PF. It was super cheap and rarely packed. The clientele was mostly older. Their model is ridiculous, but it gets people talking about it and that can't hurt.

My current gym is rather shitty and I would gladly go back to a PF if it was comparable to my last one.

TBH, the new "rule of thumb" seems to be "judge how you look in the mirror, not by the weight on the scale" but I get your point.

Never been a fan of weighing in at the gym anyways.
Each scale can be a little different, and the time of day ya weigh in can change that number. I prefer one scale and one scale only and an AM weigh in

For the most part at a PF you find 3 types of people (obviously some outliers).
Old people
Women
Men that are there out of convenience (so many locations), or because its dirt cheap, or because they want to show off for the women.

Just being honest, I have no real problems with the place but if it weren't for the fact that I can go work out during lunch and make it back in an hour, I would have gone somewhere else.

That being said, it is not nearly as bad as some "real gym" people make it out to be.

Chest/Back this morning. I know I've said it already, but I haven't felt this great in a long time.

Saturday - Back/Arms
Sunday - Chest/Arms
Monday - Quads/Arms
Tuesday - Shoulders/Arms
Wednesday - Hams/Arms
Thursday - Calves/Traps/Abs

Using the Chad Waterbury "high frequency" training for arms, trying to hit them 5 days a week. Obviously there is some crossover as well doing incline pressing, dead lifting, squatting, RDL's.
I've been hitting arms each day and, so far, am pretty pleased. Pump seems much better/longer lasting.

I go about it a tad different though. I only train 4 days a week and one of those is dedicated specifically to arms. On the other three days I'm adding a bicep & tricep movement (supersetted) with one heavy set followed by a dropset.

Have also been doing the weighted vest incline treadmill which works up a nice sweat.

I've done the "every day arms" the first three days this week and my arms feel a constant state of "pump". I like it so far.

As we all know there is so much conflicting studies done about weight loss and such.

This week two article were trending that i read. ONe was how skipping meals leads to fat gain. Not just fat gain, but that dreaded 'belly fat'. That breakfast is the most important meal..blah blah.

Then today another article in the same news feed says that skipping meals is good for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and skipping breakfast, or pusshing it back as far as you can, is a good thing!

Don't have a dog in this fight, nor do I give a shit. However I recall a couple of posters in here saying they use these, so they might find this interesting, or maybe they don't GAF.

This was already confirmed in this thread. Probably about a year ago, which is when this article is dated.

Personally, I like the feel of a flat shoe for dead-lifting or anything from the floor. However, the Vibrams and other similar products are nothing better than many flat shoes. There are many other, lesser expensive options.

From my personal experience, I can say that Vibrams are much more comfortable on my feet that regular shoes. I wear them whenever I can, including when I lift.

Yes, more comfortable. However, I also try to go barefoot whenever I can too. For them to say Vibram's are "no better for you than shoes" is ridiculous, but so are some of the claims and reasoning behind why they were over $100/pair.

I wouldnt mind trying those shoes for lifting and such but no way would I try them for running.

Not that anyone cares about me but this could help someone else. My hip issue was def related to my hips being out of line, most likely due to the two a day runs for a few weeks. Took a week off, run test went well but hurt afterwards and took more time off. A quick stop at the local peformance medicine place and seems to be back on track and tips on how to keep them back in line. Had the issue last fall but the symptoms were different (tight hammy always at the mile mark of a run).

99% of shoes today are terrible for humans. Human beings are meant to wear fucking shoes. Running in them? Duh. They will cause problems.

It's like debating that certain chairs are bad for you and some new brand of chair is great. The real issue is...don't sit down.

I run sprints, on soft grass, in them all of the time with no issues. I wouldn't advocate doing that on cement/concrete though and I certainly wouldn't suggest a distance runner wear them (or run distance PERIOD, for that matter).

I meant shoes in general. Some of the "running shoes" out there with 4 inch heel lifts and extreme cushion on the soles have been made to not make it uncomfortable to run. There's no doubt they lead to imbalances and injuries though. Try to run 12-14 MPH sprints in Vibrams on a treadmill and just the pounding noise alone will shy people away.

I've run sprints on the treadmill in Vibrams and agree completely.
