Matt Underwood is the 2nd worst in the biz (behind Hawk). Rick Manning gets tired of calling him out and sometimes agrees or says "well...it was close" lol. Yesterday he said it was fair and barely caught chalk (which was correct). He probably is just tired of arguing with Underwood.

That is what Im confused about. Cause if there was, then Choo doesnt even matter. But I dont know the whole landscape.
Yes, runner on 3rd was running, but stopped and went back when the ball was popped up, mhs95 wanted Choo to be at 2nd to save an out, but had he not went back and the ball was caught, it would've ended the inning. The way it played out, Choo was out at 2nd on the force, but the Reds still had an rbi chance with a runner on 3rd.

He runs, it's a double play. Period.
You are missing the point. Maybe thinking about it this way will help:

Say there is one out and a runner on 3rd and the suicide squeeze sign is given. The runner heads for home on the pitch and the batter pops it up just like tonight. The pitcher or the 3B catches it unlike tonight, and guess what, the runner coming from 3rd is toast and is easily doubled off to end the inning.

Now just add the runner on 1st with one out, and the same thing happens. There is no risk for the runner on 1st to be going on the pitch also and be standing on 2nd when the pop-up comes down. They just double off either of the runners to end the inning. Now if for some strange reason, the ball falls, like it did tonight, you are already on 2nd at no risk. And by rights tonight, Cozart was toast, and should have resisted the urge to head back toward 3rd becasue he was already dead meat, and should have scored on the muff.

Forgot about Hawk, he's definitely the worst I've ever heard.

How is the runner on 3rd toast? He is retreating to an uncovered base?

He was able to retreat; that's how high the popup was.

Yes, Cozart got within a few feet of home. It was the classic suicide bunt play.

OK. So Cozart had enough time to get back than I agree with you all.

I think the easy fix to this problem is the man on 1st needs to mirror the man on 3rd.

Cozart was the batter. Choo was on first. Hannahan at 3rd.

Ok. Well either way. Man on 1st in that situation should do what the man on 3rd does.

If he runs and doesnt retreat, no point in the man on 1st retreating. If man on 3rd goes back, man on 1st needs to also to avoid the DP.

The 3rd baseman messed up too - should have let the pitcher have the pop and went back to cover 3rd! If Choo would have been standing on 2nd, then the SS should have been covering 3rd.

The proper baserunning play is for both runners to go on the pitch and not come back. If the hitter pops it up, its an inning ending double play if it is caught. The inherent risk of the suicide squeeze.

It was Hannahan, not Cozart. And he was not "a few feet from home." He stopped to retreat to third farther away from the plate than where the ball was dropped. He was MAYBE half way down the line when he turned to go back.

That is what happened. Both runners retreated on the pop-up.

Yes that's right it was Hannahan on 3rd, my mistake, but mirroring is not proper either because the runner on 1st is forced if it is dropped.

IF ANYTHING you could say hannahan should have stopped instead of retreated since nobody was covering his bag.

Rod Allen of the Tigers is terrible too. I know he is not PxP but he has prevented me from watching the Tigers ever since I first heard him 7 years ago.

I really wish he wouldn't do that. Go into the tunnel to do that kind of stuff.

I understand that part, but there's also kids there to see Votto cause he's their favorite player, then they hear that. I know frustration happens in the heat of the moment, but Joey does it a lot.
