Yeah ok, I will take it a step further and say it was the free for all approach you had when you orignally started this site. Funny how more new members posted then, and not as many posters left.

Right. I think the problem stems from us (the moderators) letting people get away with pretty much whatever they wanted. There were no consequences. Eventually, people got sick of it and left. But again, who gives a fuck what I think? I don't run this place.

There were a lot more posters even 6 months to a year ago, and people were still being dicks then. Petty moderation has led to the problems. As I have suggested numerous times, just thread ban. I don't see what is so hard about it. And don't give me this "wellll, when we thread ban, you all still bitch." Who gives a fuck? Isn't that what the basement was made for? GOD FORBID people use the basement to complain.

When have I ever complained about people bitching in the basement? Just because I respond down there doesn't mean I give a shit that people are bitching.

And thread banning is fine, but wouldn't it make more sense for people to just not be dicks? Serious question. What do you get out of "fighting" on the internet with people? I truly am curious.

But I am willing to possibly go to a thread banning model of moderation. I guess people will eventually get that if they want to remain active in discussions they'll have to cut the shit. That said, there would be no warnings and no thread ban reversals. Eventually, though, there will people that just don't give a shit and will make it a point to get banned from every thread. At that point it doesn't really seem all that effective.
