Apparently there is some sort of an issue with Tiger's drop on 15....

Jason Sobel is saying the ball was dropped on a different line from when the ball last crossed the hazard.

There is a picture out there with some lines on it, which doesn't show much other than the ball being about 2 feet from his first divot. Which doesn't mean anything honestly.

Nothing a phone call from the head of CBS to Billy Payne can't solve.wildcats20;1424556 wrote:Apparently there is some sort of an issue with Tiger's drop on 15....
If they disqualify Tiger with him in contention CBS will raise holy hell.

Tiger could be throwing the ball onto the green and they wouldn't DQ him. Hoping Day stays in contention so they show plenty of his wife.

I was reading they may be feeling more pressure to DQ him after so strictly enforcing the rules on the Chinese kid. They run the risk of looking like massive hypocrites allowing Tiger to break a rule and yet assessing the 14 year old the first slow play penalty in over a decade.se-alum;1424581 wrote:Tiger could be throwing the ball onto the green and they wouldn't DQ him.
David Feherety said on Golf channel tonight it was an illegal drop, and that Tiger should be disqualified. It will be world war III if it happens, but after what they did today they almost have to if that drop is ruled to be illegal.

This is such an ambiguous rule. If they actually DQ him for dropping his ball less than 2 yards further away from hole, then it's just crazy. I know rules are rules, but this one seems pretty flexible. I haven't had a chance to watch what Feherty had to say, but come on. It's not like he's dropping away from some type of hazard such as a bunker or tree...he's in the middle of the damn fairway.

• He could have played from a designated drop area, which he chose not to do because he did not like the lie.
• He could drop the ball, keeping the point where it last crossed the margin of the water between the hole and the spot on which the ball would be dropped. Since the ball entered the water well left of Woods' position from the fairway, it would seem he did not choose this option -- which would have allowed him to drop on a straight line as far back as he wanted.
• Or, he could return to the original spot from which he played, and drop "as nearly as possible,'' from where he played the third shot.

Golf has rules that are way way to vague. They wont DQ Tiger if they know whats good for the sport and dont wanna commit ratings suicide.

I like that they used the new "HDTV" rule. lol
Although, I will say, it kind of DOES have relevence here. While you didnt need HDTV to see it wasnt as near as possible, no one notices without the benefit of replay, which in essence is TV. So I guess it kind of makes sense, though it was clearly used to keep Tiger in the field.

Yup. Since he signed the score card already then they have to DQ him.said_aouita;1424610 wrote:2 shot penalty
Dustin Johnson was DQ'd from a playoff at the PGA for signing an illegal score card as well after the fact.
If that drop is deemed illegal, then Woods needs to go .
Maybe it will force them to revisit this ridiculous rule about being DQ'd from the tourney when an illegal penalty comes up after the fact.

Tiger is the one who said in the post rounder presser he dropped it further back than the original shot. That is what sparked this whole thing. Had he kept his mouth shut I suspect this never comes up.Laley23;1424614 wrote:I like that they used the new "HDTV" rule. lol

Im saying its a violation. They used the new HDTV rule as a loophole to keep him around.

Wow, this is unreal.
Never seen the penalty added and then a guy not disqualified for signing an illegal scorecard.

This is completely and totally retarded. A penalty for that? Smh @ golf and its rules, just commited ratings suicide if Tiger isnt in contention now because of the penalty

Like laley said, there's a new amendment to the rule that states if the player is unaware that he broke the rule, and the officials don't point it out until after the scorecard was signed, then a penalty can be given rather than a DQ.IggyPride00;1424619 wrote:Wow, this is unreal.

This amendment is a good thing since the rules are clearly complicated and can be interpreted in several different ways.

I agree with this. Have no problem with keeping guys from being disqualified. Give them a penalty and move on.

All of the golf channel analysts (former players at least) right now are calling for Tiger to withdraw for knowingly breaking the rules as he admitteed in his press conference. Talk of asteriks if he were to come back and win.

He didn't knowingly break the rule. He misinterpreted the rule. You think he would have intentionally set himself up for a penalty so he could hit a shot from less than two yards away in the middle of the fairway?IggyPride00;1424632 wrote:All of the golf channel analysts (former players at least) right now are calling for Tiger to withdraw for knowingly breaking the rules as he admitteed in his press conference. The fact that the ball shot off at an angle after it hit the flagstick caused the problem. Tiger mistakenly combined two rules, thinking he could simply hit from the same line, rather than the exact same spot.
These jackasses calling for him to DQ himself are crazy. He incurred the penalty that the rule deems necessary, and even more actually since he got screwed by it hitting the flagstick. He went from birdie to bogey, and then got nailed with 2 extra shots.
