No, no. He's only not DQ'd because he's Tiger. Haven't you heard? lolroyal_k;1424806 wrote:ESPN aired the press conference with the head of the Augusta rules committee, and he explained it very well. And there's no way he should have been DQd.

I assumed he talked to an official after hitting it into the water. If he didn't, I agree he shouldn't be DQ'd. I still don't see how they could review the shot, say it was within the rules, then wait for tiger to admit he didn't play it from the same spot to penalize him.

It was brought to their attention after the shot that it might have been illegal. They reviewed the tape, said it was legal. Then later in the night, were told of Tiger's comments to Rinaldi. They spoke with Tiger this morning and decided that the 2 stroke penalty was the correct call. And confirmed it with all of the ruling bodies in golf. DQ was NEVER on the table.Laley23;1424809 wrote:Damn I missed it.

Because they didn't ask him his intent the first time. Once they found out that he dropped it two yards back, then they decided it was a violation. He thought he could drop anywhere within the same line behind the original spot, but it was a yellow hazard instead of a red, I think.ZWICK 4 PREZ;1424811 wrote:I assumed he talked to an official after hitting it into the water. After they got the call from the viewer, they reviewed the tape. Tiger was actually still on the coarse playing 18. They saw no rule infraction, so they didn't think it was necessary to inform Tiger of the review. After his interview they new he had committed an infraction for an improper drop. They went over the tape with him and came to the understanding that he didn't realize he'd made the infraction. That's when they decided to use the new rule and impose the 2 shot penalty but not DQ him.Laley23;1424809 wrote:Damn I missed it.

I know what you're saying, but you can see on the video how far behind his divot he was there's no way the rule officials didn't notice that when they reviewed it.ironman02;1424816 wrote:Because they didn't ask him his intent the first time. That's exactly what they he said in the press conference. They thought it was in close proximity to the original shot.ZWICK 4 PREZ;1424818 wrote:I know what you're saying, but you can see on the video how far behind his divot he was there's no way the rule officials didn't notice that when they reviewed it.

He just had to play "as near as possible" to the previous spot. Since he was in the middle of the fairway, and playing from behind the spot, they probably thought it wasn't a big deal until he admitted that it benefitted him.ZWICK 4 PREZ;1424818 wrote:I know what you're saying, but you can see on the video how far behind his divot he was there's no way the rule officials didn't notice that when they reviewed it.

I'm glad they decided to show Jim Nantz interviews for the first 20 minutes of live coverage. That's probably what people really want to see at the Masters.

The Masters coverage has always sucked. Tee off in the morning but no coverage until 3PM.

Tiger just blew a great chance to get within 3. Went completely around the cup and back out for a par...from like 5 feet.
