How many more until they finish over .500 finally?

35 more wins = .500

36 more wins = above .500

Can't blame Pirate fans for being excited at the prospect of a non-losing season and maybe more. We've obviously seen the 2nd half tank job they've done recently so it's cautious optimism but optimism nonetheless.

Just giving you a hard time. I hate 'Raise it' though, it's so god damn stupid. I text my buddy who works for the Pirates all the time and tell him to have the marketing department change that shit.

Nice! Woke up to see the Cards lost this morning to Texas, so only one game back, now. I think everyone involved in anything important in the division is off today (as well as almost everyone in baseball), so here's a day to celebrate a productive weekend.

Man, it's crazy seeing the offense actually doin' work. Five home runs in Seattle. That park isn't a home run park usually. Or nearly ever. So that's a pretty impressive night.

Pirates break the 2-2 tie by scoring 2 runs in the top of the 9th. Melancon gonna try to nail this one down in Seattle now.

A 5-0 West Coast trip. Regardless of what the teams' records are, that's still pretty kickass.

7-2 on the road trip. 18 games over .500, .5 behind the Cards for the best record in baseball.

Cards and Reds lose. Buccos tied for first with St. Louis. After 20 years of losing....you have got to enjoy things when you can.

Not to look ahead, but according to ESPN, the Pirates have a 79.8% chance of making the playoffs.

Way too early to talk playoffs, especially after the last two collapses, but one thing in their favor now is how there's only 4 (maybe 5, depending on how you look at Arizona) legit teams in the National League at this point with everyone else being .500ish or worse. Washington and the Dodgers are disappointments, the Giants are struggling after winning it all, Philly and Milwaukee have fallen off from perennial contender to mediocre or worse, Cubs and Mets are still the Cubs and Mets (although NY might be starting to see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel with the way guys like Harvey and Wheeler are coming on), Miami's a joke and SD/Colorado are the definition of meh.

If trends like those continue, it could help the team. You know towards late July/early August, the pressure will be mounting with a lot of "will they hold on THIS TIME??!?" talk. Not having anyone breathing down their neck for a wild card spot so they can just focus on being in the best position they can be in as far as the three-headed beast in the Central goes would be awesome.

Not sure what the Cards will do tonight but right now at this moment the Pirates have the best record in baseball. Cole is 4-0 after a 10-3 Bucco victory over the Brew Crew.

Cards lose and the Bucs one game up with the best record in baseball. I'm going tonight so I fully expect them to lose but damn, is this fun to be relevant again.

Can we please just cancel the All Star Game since that seems to signal the fall the last couple of years

I'll tell you....I know .500+ isn't the goal at season's end.....but if you are the first team to 50 wins and don't make it to 82....that'd be bad.

I smell 88....congrats

#1 in ESPN's power rankings.

Is this real life? I'm still not buyin' it, not after last years collapse.

Streak is over after a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Phillies. Cumpton had a rough 6th inning and that was all it took.

At least the Cards lost, too. And the rotation is back to normal now with Locke taking his turn (since he had to be moved back a day due to warming up for a potential 15th inning on Sunday), so hopefully, they start a new win streak.

Pirates lose their 4th straight after falling 2-1 to Oakland two days in a row. Hopefully the bats come alive soon but still in pretty good position as things stand right now in the division.
