I get the "thanks but no thanks" emails all the time.

Say 'fuck it', and move on. I don't expect companies to waste time explaining anything further.

I've gone through a similar process where I applied, was asked to fill out a survey followed by an essay. Then met with a group of 5 ppl in an office. Asked back 2 weeks later, this time having to rent a car and travel 35 min outside of the city to meet with a group I would be working with, if hired, remotely, then another interview a week later in a city that I had to take a train to get to. Followed up by radio silence, never heard from them again. I think its safe to assume now that I didn't get the job. The entire process cost me well over $100 (between renting car, gas, tolls, and train fare).

The irony, the job was for Kaiser Permante, who is now my health care provider.

I don't think anyone expects them to "explain" why they said no...rather, they would like (and imo it's not unreasonable to ask for) a simple yes or no in a reasonable timeframe. Is that seriously too much to ask?

Unfortunately, yes. My sister is currently job hunting in Denver. She's a bit green and naive in that department so she asks me what to do. She interviewed for a position about 2 weeks ago, followed up after a week and still no decision. They told her they are keeping her in mind and would let her know. So she asked if she should follow up again? I told her to just keep searching. I learned a long time ago....getting hung up on one open position is pointless.

I always chuckle to myself when recent-grads tells me they applied for a position and they're waiting to hear back. I've literally applied to hundreds and only gotten a few call backs.

Sorry, but it shouldn't be too much to ask. This is just one of many reasons why HR is a joke.

Just because something is "standard" operational process doesn't make it right.

"Standard" are the minimum guideline set by non-achiever so everyone can be equal to make everyone feel good about themself.... anything above a beyond is achievement and pride. Which some people are clueless about.

There are “standards” then there are “your expected higher standard” …
Standard is not minimum. Standard means what most people do. The problem is you start getting into issues where people want to sue because they accuse you of hiring based on a protected class, or some other bullshit. It's not worth it to the employer.

Maybe for a higher end job with a just a few finalists, but even then it's not really worth it.

I agree completely. I despise the HR function of companies. I've had HR reps act like we were best friends and practically tell me the job was mine.....then all of a sudden fall off the face of the earth.

Hundreds and only a few call backs? I've applied to 10 and got 3 interviews and my resume isnt all that great. Maybe the problem is you. Find out what employers in your field are looking for and find a way to get it on your resume.

I think all anyone is asking is for some indication the position has been filled. A lot of employers don't even give you that.

You didn't give any advice that wasn't already given. You tried to pat yourself on the back about getting interviews. When considering your not in the same field/industry, that post was pretty much meaningless. :laugh:

Maybe. Or it could be that I am applying for government/state positions and they're highly sought after.

I should also mention that there are a decent amount of entry-level positions out there, but positions where you aren't exactly entry-level and not exactly management are damn near impossible to find.

That's what I am looking for.

I wasnt patting myself on the back, was just pointing out that a recent graduate waiting to get a call back isnt "delusional". Not everybody is in dlazz's positon.

Well, your post is pretty much meaningless and repetitive as well. "Boo fucking hoo, I never got a call back. I hate HR."
