Notice how the infraction wasn't for a personal attack. It was the accumulation of his posts over time, hence the rule I cited in the infraction.

This was honestly a situation that mirrors the phrase "the straw that broke the camel's back." He's been doing it for a long while, we have a rule that covers continual harassment. We've discussed recently Like_That and CoA doing this to Dynasty and Jordo as well.

Yes, it wasn't the worst thing he has ever said or done. But it was just another post in a long line of posts of behavior that falls under continual harassment.

And I know you obviously disagree, and I won't convince you otherwise. So that's the extent of my explanation to you.

It wasn't coa's.

Do those 2 have naked pictures of you or something? No one in their right mind can back them in every instance and actually mean it.

Re: The Browns thread and stuff like that.

They seem to want sole control of that thread to "self-mod" it. I know when I was booted from the Huddle and on Yappi, that's what the Baseball forum mods did with the Reds season thread (which is a good comparison as far as thread size, the number of arguments and how some of the main people are social retards). They'd let people get into 5-page arguments over the merits of mediocre guys and wouldn't step in unless things became a total clusterfuck.

But if we'd agree to do that, it's all the way. If a Capone-type goes crazy on that thread and they start bitching and reporting posts, remind them that they were the ones that wanted to self-police their thread, so tough shit.

But if they want to self-police, what about people who would like to take part of the discussion within the rules?

If they want to have a self-policed thread, they are more than welcome to do it in the basement.

This is kind of what I was getting at with my thread about being pleased with Tiernan. He was using the basement as it should be. He was starting all his anti-ND posts in there and getting some responses.

They gotta have something. Wildcats is against any moderation of like_that and CoA.

I'm upset because everyone over moderates them, yet lets shit slide all the damn time.

Case in point, yesterday. Thavoice's posts warranted an infraction, but all he got was a thread ban. Jordo can troll the Brown's threads, nothing happens. But when someone responds to him, they get busted for it. People talk shit all the time about Justin and his wife, nothing happens. Webfire trolls the Brown's thread and nothing really happens. Sleeper and all the ND haters troll that shit and we just post a warning message. The OSU threads(football and basketball) get trolled constantly and nothing happens. Yet the moment like_that, coa or s&l post something that might be borderline, it gets jumped on and infracted or removed.

There is literally NO consistency at all. That is why people hate moderators. That is why view ignore our warnings and shit.

This was the first infraction for any of that group in a long time. I certainly wouldn't say they are over moderated by any stretch.

It's not over moderating them as much as finally moderating what should have been moderated by them/ what we incorrectly allowed them to get away with for 2 years now actually getting done.

It may seem like we're coming down hard on them all of a sudden, but they have been in rare form the past 2 weeks. Sure, there were periods where they were kind of sketchy and let it go in the past, but they went off the goddamn reservation since December.

By and large, I don't think they're bring over moderated as much as I think they decided to be huge assholes when we decided to enforce the rules. Isadore got sent packing, Tiernan got sent to the basement, and a small army have been thread banned recently.

So what about all of the harassing of sos? It's all ok because no one likes him, right?

I'm done. Justin please take away my moderator status.

This seems like you're just taking this really seriously. It seems like like_that isn't fired up about it anymore, and it's not like any of them have really gotten busted for anything for quite some time prior.

Is everything okay otherwise? You've just seemed like you've had a really strong response in this thread for what it is.

But seriously, wow.

My opinion after finally catching up on all this: there is a small but vocal group that causes 90% of issues. For whatever reason, everything is an opportunity to argue. When two people from the same small group go at it, we end up with pointless bickering from people who can't let things go or must take everything seriously, or must take everything to the next level. People generally want to come here for a laugh and some sports discussion. I don't see what's so hard about it but there are dickheads everywhere, so why should this place be different?

As far as moderation goes, context always matters. When two buttheads start going at it I frankly don't care. A lot of them bring it on themselves. When a butthead tries to provoke members having conversations normal in the course of the thread, that's where it crosses my line. I know it's not consistent, but it's how I tend to view it. If we want to be more draconian we can, but it will need to be pretty severe and with no exceptions.
